Thai citizenship process to be corruption-free in future

BANGKOK: -- The Ministry of Interior has ordered its officials to make the process of granting Thai nationality corruption free.

The process must be transparent, without bribes and extortion, the Deputy Permanent Secretary for Interior, Siwa Sangmanee, told TNA on Monday.

All state-less people, minorities and foreign residents in Thailand seeking Thai citizenship will be dealt justly and strictly according to the law, he said.

The ministry has also ordered its officials to provide adequate public information about the citizenship process and the regulations concerned to potential applicants in order to prevent corruption.

Anyone abused by officials can lodge their complaints to the authorities at the Damrongdhramma Centre at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, or call 1567.

Officials found guilty of abuse, or corruption will be prosecuted, Mr. Siwa warned.

Some state-less people and minorities have already been granted Thai citizenship earlier this year.

Unsuccessful applicants will be informed of the reasons they were turned down within a designated time.

Maybe its about time for same in LOS :D  :D

Only if your resume includes success as a world class chess Grand Master. Sticking your finger in the eye of the World's remaining superpower doesn't hurt, either. :o

Yesterday was my third visit to Royal Thai Police (Naturalization department) and the officer helped arranging all the documents and confirmed that all documents are in palce. I have been in Thailand for 29 years and holding PR for 15 years married with Thai woman with two kids.

I was told to pay 60,000 THB extra on top of 5,000 official fees. I was given reason that since I do not know Thai language reading/writing; extra 60,000 is needed. I speak fluent Thai. Can inability to read/write Thai be an obstacle for getting Thai citizenship? I have been told to go with my wife next week and keep the money ready. What if I do not pay 60,000?

You have been here 29 years... you should know the answer to your question... in 29 years you have never made friends or acquaintances that can smooth this road... pay the 60 or call the hotline... your choice where the buck stops.

pay the 60,000 thb (with a witness present) to expedite the process.

after you receive the citizenship, go back and inquire about this paid money ...
