6 northern, 2 northeastern provinces warned of severe cold spell

BANGKOK: -- The Meteorological Department Sunday warned residents of six northern provinces and two northeastern provinces to brace themselves for severe cold spell this year.

Suparerk Tansriratanawong, director-general of the department, said Nan, Mae Hong Son, Phrae, Tak, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Loei, and Nong Khai would face colder weather this year.

He said the temperatures in the eight provinces could drop to about 6 to 9 Celsius degree this year.

He said the cold spell from China would move down to hit Thailand now and then, causing the country to have cold weather from now until January.

The Nation having a slow news day? This item is about as newsworthy as Michael Fish saying there is a good chance there'll be some heavy showers in northern England this winter and for Mancunians to brace themselves for rain. :o

And what does he mean "colder weather this year"? Colder than what? The rainy season? Last cool season? Ten years average perhaps? C'mon Khun Suparerk, you can do better than that man! :D

Good point.

Winter frost is not unknown in those areas, even in a "normal" year.

That is all just a myth.

Last year for example.....we had two consecutive weekends that were rain free. :D
