Difficult to say as it depends on your age and circumstances - but why not try a tourist visa to begin with then when u are here you can sort things out with immigration, or not.

You should, in the first instant, apply for a Multi entry Non Immigrant O visa from one of the Thai consulates in the UK with the reason of having a Thai wife, this will allow you unlimited entry to Thailand for a 1 year period, each entry must not exceed 90 days.

Once there you can simply leave and re-enter Thailand at the nearest border every 90days or you can apply for a 1 year extension to your visa (which means you would not have to leave the country and provided you continue to meet the conditions you should be able to perpetually extend in 1 year periods.)

To get the 1 year extension you will need to prove a family income of B40,000 / month (if based on being married to a Thai) or if you are over 50 you can apply based on retirement but would need to show an income of B65,000 / month or B800,000 in a savings account for a period of 3 months or a combination of the two.

Moved to the Thai visas and residency sub-forum.
