I bought a new laptop in the UK about two years ago and the first thing I did was install an antivirus program (from a disc I'd used before). As soon as it was installed it ran automatically and found a trojan. It had been out of the box less than an hour and not connected to the internet.

My favourite was one of a batch of Chinese 'iPods' I bought from Pantip.

Plugged in my notebooks usb my anti virus found a nasty little trojan on it.

Have ya got a new drive lately. Use a wiping program before ya use it.

The Investigation Bureau, a part of the Ministry of Justice that's responsible for both internal security and foreign threats, said it suspected mainland China's authorities were responsible for planting the malware on the drives at the factory. "The bureau said that the method of attack was unusual, adding that it suspected Chinese authorities were involved," a story posted by the English-language Taipei Times reported Sunday. "Sensitive information may have already been intercepted by Beijing through the two Web sites, the bureau said."
Seagate, however, countered that the only data captured by the on-disk Trojans and sent to the Chinese Web sites were game-related passwords.

:o:D :D

What many have suspected is finally confirmed: China cribs our WoW passwords!! The bastards!

BTW - definitely turn off Windows Autostart. Otherwise a trojan/virus like this will infect you as soon as you plug the drive in, and before you get a chance to wipe it. Easiest with MS Powertoys for Windows.
