Cheap(er) Place To Get Hair Rebonded?

Featured Replies

Hey girls,

I'm back in BKK. and I want to get my hair rebonded again. Last time I got it done at Shiseido at Paragon, but the prices are quite steep (5000 B + about 2000B of products to buy) -- so I'm wondering if anyone had any cheaper but still good and professional salons to recommend for rebonding? I'm reluctant to just get it done on the soi -- if they screw up how long they leave the products on ,etc, your hair can fall out -- and with farang hair having a very different texture than Thai hair, I want someone with experience rebonding farang hair.

I found rebonding was the only way to make my hair manageable in this climate, so if necessary, I'll just get it done at Shiseido, but I would definitely welcome any cheaper suggestions. :-)

Thanks!

Hi Canadian Girl

Glad you arrived safely in BKK! I have never had my hair rebonded so feel free to take my suggestions with a pinch of salt!

A Burmese friend told me about there being many places for Rebonding in Siam Square (she went to one that gives coupons for discounts depending on if you get there before 8am or something daft!) Am not sure what they are like though.. might be worth taking a look if you are around that area????

Other than that, this previous thread talked about loads of different hairdressers so might be worth callling a few and asking them about prebious experiences etc or checking them out...

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...25&start=25 Through this thread (THANKS GALS!) I found Nikki at Schwing and am Very happy with him! :o Had highlights and trims there!

Sorry not to be of more help with specific rebonding advice. Best of luck!

what is rebonding :o

what is rebonding :o

I'm so glad someone else has that question, too. I'll google it and let you know....

Rebonding, is the process of applying, protein and moisturizer to damaged

hair. Keratine is what the hair is made of. All the amino acid in the hair

is what makes up keratine. If you know a product that has the amino acid , it

will protect the hair, and no, it is not damaging to it.

That's a quote, not my own words.

Well, aren't we enlightened now? :D There has to be more to it than that if someone is going to pay 5000 baht for it. Can anyone else explain???

It's a "straight perm" -- so it makes your hair completely straight. But the way it's done also changes the texture of your hair to be silky and glossy -- for myself, I have curly hair that goes very frizzy in the Bangkok heat, and I finally found it was the only way to deal with my hair here. Plus it basically makes it look and feel like Thai hair -- which also made it a lot easier to get a haircut.

A few people on the board say they like this salon, and if their prices are good, I might go with them. Here are some pictures of rebonding from this salon:

Wow, the rebonding pics on the Chetta Website look fantastic and so many satisfied customers. Definitely worth checking out methinks! Let us know how you get on CG!

Incidentally, a few questions which you may be able to help with....can rebonding damage your hair? Do you know how long it lasts? What happens when it grows??? Do you have to have it done again? Otherwise it looks half straight/half wavy?

Txs in advance if anyone knows! :o

The hair in the pictures looks so soft - very tempting. I've got curly hair as well, but I love what Bangkok does to it. I think the humidity makes the curls heavier so they actually sit on my head, instead of the staticy unmanageable mess I was used to. Always wanted to try straightening my hair, but every time I come back after a haircut with my hair dried straight my husband laughs his head off and says I look like a grade 2 student.

I would also worry about having that half straight half curly look as it starts growing in.

Good luck with it :o

Hi Andiamo!

I read up a bunch about it, before getting it done. Like any chemical procedure, it does damage your hair. But I found that it damaged it a lot less than straight ironing it every day, and if you buy the products the stylist recommends - -there's usually a really intensive conditioner, a mild shampoo, a conditioning cream and then some silicon product to protect it against the heat (yeah , i know, a lot of stshuff!), at least my hair stays in good condition.

If they do a bad job, your hair can fall out! So it's important to get it done at an experienced place. It lasts basically forever, but your hair grows out and that part isn't straight at the roots. I think people who keep their hair in this way get it done twice a year.

As for Miss Chetta, I really liked her. I'm still waiting for the final results (you have to not wash it for the first three days, to make sure it "sets" properly), but I think she did a really good job. She was really nice, and her English is very good. Talking to her was really enjoyable -- she quit a job in economics to open her own salon, and she is very smart and ambitious.

The only thing that bugged me, is that I booked my appointment with her, but then other customers came in, and she started doing their hair, and left me to her assistant. Salons at home do this too, and it really bugs me. I struggled to say something polite about it, since I specifically came for her and her expertise, not for her assistant (who was still nice and competent, just not the one I booked with), I tried to make a joke about it "oh, are you leaving me?" and then she was more attentive. Does this sort of thing bug you guys too?

In the end, she charged me 1800B for the rebonding (my hair is below my ears, and very thick.). The whole process took 6 hours! But now I basically don't need to style my hair for the next six months -- just wash and blowdry and it looks great! So it's good for lazy people like me who don't want to look like slobs. :-)

Honestly this happen everywhere you go, it will only bug me when the stylist I booked with left me completely or let her assistance or someone handle the most crucial part of the process. For me, as long as the stylist is overall in control of my hair, I can understand sometime she need to be excused for a while. But CG you've saved quite a lot. As for me, I've visited her salon a couple times. I'm happy with her skill, for my rebonding she charged me 3,200 versus other quoted me 10,000. So to me is a huge saving and she do delivered good result. Honestly I'm giving her my 2 thumbs up!

I've recommended my sister, who will be visiting me here next week, for a hair extension with Miss Chetta. Let's see is she's as good in this area too. SORRY sis... for using you to test out before I decide what to do with my hair :o

does anybody knows if it's possible to rebond only the fringe? I like my hair waivy but I'd love my fringe to be straight and always in it'splace... I guess rebonding can help but only is it possible to do only fringe?

Dear ladies and gals, :D

I will share all my happy and sad experiences with good or bad hair (dayssssssssssss) here in Bangkok.

I admit having a bit of (hair fetish syndrome :D ); which means I like the typical image of stone-age genuine looks, when women had (long-hair) to enable the (hairy- ape alike) men to drag em to the cave.

Thus,I have been consecrated in finding a good hair-dresser (salon) since (landing in LOS) to maintain my hair. I tried all the ones who were recommended by friends, work-mates and the TV forum.

All these experiences were my own personal feedback, so am pretty sure other women here don't agree or might have a very pleasant results from the same venture that do not match mine.

1- Chalachol- Thonglor in front Witches' Tavern Bar : he asks abt 10k Bhat for rebonding long hair. You can never expect any treatment's price less than 5k. But if you have a special party to attend and you want your hair to look as movie stars go there:for only (Styling - blow dry) curly stuff and not (straightening iron looks) ,price will be (500-800)b.He (estimates) the charge of your requested service by (evaluating) the outfit, accessories and your wallet's potentials (he inspects if there is a car's key medal in your hand) then quote the price.

2- Tom & Laycut: Avoid all the malls & centrals branches (5-10)k Bhat; all are rip offs. There is a branch in Ladprao is (good) with reasonable prices ,go with a Thai gf first time there.

3-Cut & Curl : hit & miss; also high prices especially the one in Central World PLaza.

4- CHETTA: I was encouraged to try her salon by this forum; I had went there last year for little touch-ups of hight lights to my dark brown hair in June ,she quoted 3k Bhat & I agreed, sadly I ended up with a very flashily blond colorer's shades(orange-yellow-white) on the same treated locks , she was shocked to see my hair more than me ( I was looking freaky blond haired with black eyes & black eye brows :D ) .before I uttered a word ; she had colored my whole hair with brown dye ,saying she wants to unite the original base color with one shade then afterwards add the desired (honey&sugar) highlight touch ups. Anyways, after washing the hair it appeared that she was right;I had a one united hair color but it was more like (pumpkin-orange) color :D , now I was (unrested) a bit but didn't say a word but only teared! ( I can not get angry;my hair is in her hand) she felt sorry for me and she was so kindly apologizing and promising to fix it up. At that time ;it was 9p.m. at night. I left and went back again after a week. She seems she was ready to figure out my questioned shade of color, she used a bit dark blended colors, after waiting the usual time: alas ! there I was with dark charcoal black hair!she said that my hair is (strange) to handle since am not Thai nor Falang :D anyway, I stopped right there since it was not going well to me,

but I should add here:I had the pleasure of dealing with a lovely polite Thai woman(Chetta) and her bf (who both speaks English very well), they never showed any signs of crudity or impatience . I heard that few other (famous) places they react badly aggressive even if they are the ones who responsible for unsatisfactory results.

4-Chillout: A big (2-storey) salon between Bang-kapi Mall and Macro , Ask for RIM 0879354232, he is the best in the reboding field for a very long hair ;he charges 1500b (sheisdo). There is less expensive :o options depending on the product he would use. For a hair-cut or color (take a photo) with you and you tell him (same same)! you will get same same!

He does hair styling (150b) which looks great.(I do recommend them, I go there to do my hair falang-style).

Honestly, the best hair-cut I've had was in Yangon/Burma Salons, they are so perfect and kind there.

i think it's about which chemical product they use and how experienced the staff are.

i've gone to the japanese place in Central World, right next to the cut and curl, it's black and white and i think it starts with a T? they also have a location in siam square (not the mall, across the street) and do those weird steam facials.

they use shiseido chemicals but it's only 3,000 baht and the salon is clean and pleasant. they did a fine job on my hair and also on my friend's, which was more challenging since it's blonde processed.

if you're checking out a salon, ask them which chemicals they use and ask to see the package. there are a few good brands out there you can find on the internet. not sure you'll find much cheaper than that if you use brand name chemicals.

also, don't waste your money on the products they will try to sell you! it really doesn't make a difference. imo the best conditioner is pantene straight and weighty and you can buy it for 99 baht. ;-)

does anybody knows if it's possible to rebond only the fringe? I like my hair waivy but I'd love my fringe to be straight and always in it'splace... I guess rebonding can help but only is it possible to do only fringe?

they will do it but it's not worth the cost and the time, since the hair is so much shorter and even after a month the new growth will make it noticeably less neat looking.

Hey! I've done my hair at stephane in soi 51 but really private, but not expensive charge between 3000 and 5000 including treatment and cut, he's in thailand since a long time, over 10 years and knows a lot about hair!

Hard to get but once you are his customers, you'll be for life.
