Apart from the literal meaning - "paw" = father, it is used as a (respectfully) affectionate term for HM the King, who is considered "the father" of all Thais.

It's used extensively on Billboards and other advertising media, particularly during his recent illness and in the run-up to His Majestys' 80 th birthday.

May I ask if your daughter is Thai? I am surprised to hear that this tattoo would be positioned just above someone's arse, that doesn't sound very respectful to me. :o

Just checked with the gf and she seemed surprised that someone would get that tattoo on the lower back. She said even half way down the back would be inappropriate.

Hmm..no, she's not thai..I wonder if she really knows what it means!
