November 24, 200718 yr Hey, I'm new here, so sorry if this question has been brought up a lot. I'm an American citizen planning on visiting my Thai fiancee for three weeks at the end of January. I've never stayed longer than two, is it OK to stay for 21 days on the visa they give you at the airport or will I have to apply for a tourist visa? Also I plan on visiting Vietnam for a few days while I'm there. I already know I have to get a visa to enter Vietnam, but will I have any problems reentering Thailand on the same airport stamp? Thanks in advance for any help. Edited November 24, 200718 yr by zendragondrew

Thanks in advance for any help. What you get at the airport is not a visa but a visa exempt entry and you are allowed to stay a maximum of 30 days on that. When you return from Vietnam your original stamp is dead, it died when you left Thailand to go to Vietnam, but you will just get a new entry stamp allowing you to stay another 30 days. There is no limit to how many visa exempt stamps you can receive, but you can only stay in Thailand 90 days within any six months period on such visa exemptions. If you need to stay longer you will have to get a proper visa. Sophon
November 25, 200718 yr Be aware that the 30 day visa exemption requires that you have onward air travel within 30 days of arrival. Without the onward ticket or a visa you may have difficulties boarding your flight in the first place "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
