Papaya

Featured Replies

I don't have a farm but have several Papaya trees in the garden.

One tree in particular is very tall. Have to stand on a chair and then get the longest pole I have to bring the papaya down.

Do I have to learn how to climb the tree as it gets taller, get a longer pole or what...jus wait until it falls down itself?

Any suggestions?

There's a variety that doesn't get much taller than about 3m. Find one of those trees, buy the fruit, have a nice fruit breakfast and throw the seeds into the garden. Then ditch your tall tree!

We use bamboo poles of various lenghts, normally with a 2/3 litre fizzy drink bottle cut in half and the cap end fitted over the pole, fit this over the base of the fruit and gently push upwards, you should then bring the fruit safley to the ground, depending on what state of ripeness they are, some will smash to pieces after a long drop, so yes, a longer pole is the answer, perhaps splice 2 together with string or wire?

Cheers, Lickey.

HI, Begs-a-response.

I know of a retired coconut picking monkey which you might be interested in.

He does come with bad habit thou, if he sees a coconut tree these days you may receive growling, bit attempts, or possible scratches, even worse if you place him near a tree point up and pull the chain you seem to get all of the above thrown at you in a fit of rage.

But here’s the good part….

When it comes to papaya tree picking he is a champion, three papaya trees in the garden is perfect if you started to plant more ‘I’m pretty sure he would catch on’.

Never the less there’s a few good years still even after retirement.

No charge.

Regards

C-sip

Begs,

May I suggest a trampoline !

Dual purpose.................pick the Pappaya's and at the same time lose some of that humungous belly that you seem to have been developing since you forgot how to walk !

LoL
