I am OK with people having this ultimate choice. But jumping is rude, you could kill other people or traumatize children and Canadians, and you make the Thai government officials spend money to clean up the mess that could have been better used buying viagra to buy votes.

I know I am a shameless liberal but I would like to see a legal, legitimate medical way for people to be able to do this in a clean, safe (to others) and painless way. Jumping is not a painless way.

Jumping is not a painless way !.................How do you know and how many times have you tried it ?

To be honest, i think that the fall was painless, the sudden stop might have caused the damage.

No, I google therefore I am:

there is no turning back after the jump. It is almost sure death. And an ugly death at that.

Bones shatter, ribs are snapped off like they were attached with tape, internal organs are ruptured, limbs may be severed, blood gushes out of bodily orifices,

Floor 64...thats gotta be close to the Thailand record height for a fall ?

I think the guy in Pattaya who hired a small plane last year, opened the door and jumped with a backpack full of rocks over the gulf has beat this one on height.

Obviously knew nothing about fundamental physics (acceleration of gravity = 10 m/s)..unless he counted on surviving the impact at terminal velocity and being assured of sinking :D

Joe Kittinger's 100,000-foot 1960 balloon jump

Joe Kittinger is not a household aviation name like Neil Armstrong or Chuck Yeager. But what he did for the U.S. space program is comparable. On August 16, 1960, as research for the then-fledgling U.S. space program, Air Force Captain Joseph Kittinger rode a helium balloon to the edge of space, 102,800 feet above the earth, a feat in itself. Then, wearing just a thin pressure suit and breathing supplemental oxygen, he leaned over the cramped confines of his gondola and jumped -- into the 110-degree-below-zero, near vacuum of space. Within (22) seconds his body accelerated to 714 mph :o in the thin air, breaking the sound barrier.

The people who kill themselves by jumping would never go for this. If they wanted to kill themselves quietly and painlessly they would have found a way to do it. There is something about the spectacle of going out in a big and public way.

I hope this poor man's family and loved ones can find peace.

Though it's sad when it comes to suicide, I agree with Jingthing that it's potentially dangerous and traumatizing to do the jump - as described. To future suiciders: if you're going to jump and smash your body, do it somewhere where it doesn't impact (literally or figuratively) on others. it's a physical hazard, and can be traumatizing for others, especially children who happen to be nearby.
