Overstay With Tourist Visa And Lost Passport

Featured Replies

Hi,

I arrived in Bangkok on the 28th of September with a tourist visa, planning on extending my stay to 90 days. Some time on in my stay I lost my passport and only received a new one until after the visa deadline.

As I understand it I now have to go to immigration to transfer my old, overstayed visa to even leave the country.

I'd like to be able to simply extend my stay a further 30 days, but right now I'm worried sick about having overstayed in the first place.

Right now I'm worried sick as I don't know if I'm getting thrown out of the country right away or what.

I also don't know if I should have a ticket bought for the same day with me or risking jail, if it's fine with showing enough money for me to be able to buy a ticket, or what?

Anyone have any ideas as to what might happen?

Also, I didn't go to the immigration right away upon receiving my new passport because I worried so much about being thrown in jail over the weekend.

you do a lot of worrying. just get down to immi and get the stamp transferred, pay your fine and see if they'll give you an extension

Do what Fred Sanford tells you and good luck, all will be ok

Tr4nt, As of tomorrow, DEC 3rd it will be 7-days. 3,500 baht. With your new passport it

should be evident to the officials that there was some problem. I think the other posters

are telling you like it is. If you go over there and act a little humble and apologetic, you

probably won't have to undergo the water torture and may even get the extension. :o

Thanks for the encouragement.

Financially it really doesn't matter one way or the other. It's just that getting blacklisted or thrown in jail for five hundred years would be a huge pain.

Waiting any longer sure won't make it any better. I'll make a deal with you, if

we don't hear back from you by say, Wednesday, we'll bring some donuts and

cigarettes by the immigration detention center for you. :o

Seriously, this whole week, I think they're having celebrations for the king's

upcoming 80th b-day. You may get some leniency. There are people with far

more serious problems out there than you concerning immigration. Be strong.

I would suggest that you go to immigration as soon as possible. Don't get into the habit of putting it off. The sooner you go the more understanding they may be.

But if they get the feeling you have had this new passpport for sometime and have not made the effort your dreaded wish may come true.

Hope all goes well!

When I had my passport stolen a few years ago they were very helpful at immigration, do not worry so much.

This much overstay and a new passport should not mean that you will spend some time with the IDC!

Just go on down and pay your money then beg for an extension!

Ok, only 4 hours at the immigration and now it's sorted.

Hadn't a clue what was going on when there though. Just shuffled from queue to queue and finally got a slip of papper with not a word in english on it. The nice girls at the information desk assured me that it was alright and that I wasn't going to prison though, so everything turned out alright.

You just might want to pop round to the embassy and get some clarification on your situation, did they stamp an exit date in your passport?

Edited by Mosha

Tr4nt, so nobody died huh? never any excitement here. They must have given you

some kind of receipt? did it have one of those garuda bird/man things at the top?

Probably a receipt. Please do check your exit date, from my poor math you should

be good until FEB 25. You really shouldn't go through this again anytime soon. :o

Correction, you entered SEP 28th, so with the 30 day extension you

should be good until DEC 26th. 90 days total, I even bungled that with

the ThaiVisa calculator. The extreme dufosity of it all. :o
