Hi,I am downloading a torrent so now and then but I have some strange experience. When I start downloading the speed will be reasonable but after a few hours it will drop dead every other minute. And when I say dead then I mean that the connection will be completely gone so that I even can't lookup a website anymore. This will last for a minute or so then again little bit speed for a minute then drop dead again and so on until I close the torrent program.First I thought that TOT discovered the download from torrents and shut down the port. However recently I found out that if I simply reboot my modem everything will be back to normal for a few hours. Is there someone who can give me an explanation for this.Is this a fault in my modem or is there a setting in the modem which I have to do.For your information I am using a static ip adress with port forwarding. Thanks in advance for any advice.

It is probably your modem telling you it does not like all the work involved with torrents. Check that you have the latest software installed as that can help - check Google for modems torrents and such and you will find suggestions but all in all it may be time for a new modem/router - not all seem to be created equal.

As with torrents or with emule they open a lot of connections at a time. Maybe your modem cannot handle so many connections simultanesly.

Try another modem or Router and see if it is better.

We had this problem also some time ago, some router/modem combies have the problem that there connection table gets overloaded with torrent traffic. We had this problem with a Linksys router, but it is likely that it can happen with lots of other router/modem combies.

I belief that for most Linksys routers an updated firmware is available....

Richard,my modem is a Xavi modem which is supplied by TOT and with the latest firmware installed.Probably the problem is as you mention. Can you tell me what you did to solve your problem?

Sorry I never seen a Xavi modem, maybe I will ask TOT to send me one. But the best idea is to check if your modem has something what is related to DoS attack or blacklist etc.... disable all this settings as they work on the basic of regular Internet use not on torrents, some torrent connections on last a few second and come back on other ports to check if you also accept transmission on that port.

Anyway heavy torrent traffic can "look" to some router/modem combo as a attack and blocks all ports on which this attack takes place....in the end no port open...and reset is the only option (or wait one 30 minutes to one hour, depending on router settings)

For my Linksys router I upgraded to OpenWRT firmware, what is probably not a option for your Xavi router/modem combo.....
