Japanese Retirement Letter

Featured Replies

My friend, who is from Japan and over 50, has a Non-Imm O visa issued in Japan. he frequently goes back to Japan so does not have to report his address or do visa runs.

He now wants to do the retirement extension. He can get 'an income/pension letter' from his embassy here in Thailand, but believes that he needs to get it transulated into Thai and then stamped at the Ministry of Foriegn affairs. This is correct?

Anyone know where/who can translate from Japanese into Thai. to satisfy immigration.

Thanks

If not done in English or Thai I suspect that would be the procedure and expect the normal translation places in the area of the British Embassy would be able to do the job. There may be a place nearby the Japanese Embassy that specializes in it. In any case it should not be a big problem.

There's an association of Japanese pensioners and retirees living in Thailand on retirement visa called "Thai Long Stay Japanese Club". I'm sure they can assist your friend with his needs.

My understanding is you obtain that letter in Japan, and have the translation certified by the embassy here. Also if I'm not mistaken your friend has to be over 60 to be eligible for retirement visa on the strength of the pension letter (and receiving pension no less than 150,000 yen). It won't be until he reaches age 65 before he can start receiving pension in Japan anyway. He has to fill out the application form (to request certification) which can be downloaded from Japanese embassy of Thailand website in the link below.
