Hi Everybody, I have a 1 year Non-Immigrant B, multiple entry Visa, obtained from embassy in Penang in October. Stamp to exit Thailand is in January and when I prepared my trip to Penang to exit in time I was told that my Visa would be canceled when I exit and re-enter via Penang. They say that I could do a normal boarder run in Sadao where I would get another 3-month stamp but not in Penang. There they would cancel the non immigrant visa and put a tourist visa in my passport. With a tourist visa I can not extend my workpermit, though. So I would have to buy another Non-Immigrant B visa in Penang in January??!! I can't really believe that this is true??? Anybody knows what they are talking about? Thanks for some hints!

Do you know who is taking? You can go anywhere and return and will receive a new 90 day permitted to stay stamp on your return. You would not visit a Thai Consulate, in Penang or elsewhere. You just exit country, enter another country, and return.

From you opening statement you have a visa valid for multi entry until October of 2008 so you will not need to be going to a Consulate until after that date.

Thanks! That's what I am thinking, too. Don't know what is going on behind the scenes, maybe their link in Penang who would handle the visa application would share fee or whatever ... Even though, this is unlikely. They said that the visa would be ok to stay in Thailand but not to travel over boarder. My question why it would be possible to get a stamp in Sadao but not in Penang, they said that these would be the directions from the government to the authorities in Penang. They swear that they are right and know better ... I guess I just ignore it and go.

Again I ask - who told you this? Are you saying you used a visa service to obtain your current visa and that they told you this? If so where were you when you obtained this visa? "maybe their link in Penang " in your above post is very troubling and "not to travel over boarder" doubly so. This visa was obtained while you were in Penang?

Were you there when the Non-Imm was issued?

Sounds very much like a warning to stay away from Penang because your visa may not be " kosher "

This is a Thai Company who prepared the paperwork for the visa. They work with the immigration authorities. I was in Penang when the guy they advised me to go to did the Visa for me. (Took paperwork and passport and brought it back with visa the next day.) So, not the visa service told me this but the "legal company" I used in Thailand to organise the paperwork going with it.

1. You seem to either have a valid visa obtained with false paperwork (thus the need to keep you away from Penang)?

2. Or you have a false visa stamp.

3. Or, best case, you are fully legal and have misunderstood and when they say don't go to Penang they are just saying you do not have to visit the Consulate there for you next entry.

I am not going to make any guess but you need to get together with this "legal" Thai company and find out what the story is as you must be able to do border runs on a multi entry visa and if the visa is real it should not matter where that is done.

I have a Multiple Non-B 1 year Visa renewed in Penang in July.

Flew to Penang in October stayed one day and flew back.

Did not go to the Consulate, just got a new 3 months stamp.

No problem.

I think you should think about changing your company if they don't know what

they are talking about. (or maybe they arrange the border run to Sadao :o )

A multiple entry visa means you can enter Thailand how many times you like.

Thank you everybody, will just do it and then let you know if anything goes wrong ... (lopburi: The 3rd and best case is definitely not the reason/for sure no misunderstanding ...)
