Carrot Top Shoots

Featured Replies

My girlfreind planted some discarded carrot tops in a large pot for abit of fun about a month ago.The green shoots seem to be growing well, also a couple of spring onions are doing the same, but these also have the roots.

Mainly out of curiosity,i'm sure that these carrots wont grow roots, but how long before they produce seeds?

Can you grow carrots from this?

Yes I think you can get carrot seeds this way & I think they should grow.

I dont know how long it will take to get seeds.

I seem to remember hearing its quite hard to grow carrots in Thailand.

Generally its too hot, carrots are a cool weather crop, so you will need to be sure to plant your carrot seeds in your coolest season.

The last couple of years, i grew a nice carrot patch in the winter months in CM. few tricks....you need good well drained soil, no stones in soil, and cultivated deep for longer carrots, not too much nitrogen fert after they develope their third or fourth leaves, and thin them out as delicious baby carrots.

4 grams of seed mixed with one litre sand will insure even germination....cover the seeds with straw until you see them sprout, usually 2 weeks.

carrot seeds are hard to find, but i did find some at a seed shop near warorot market.

good luck
