Hi. We have 2 maids they r husband and wife (with a kid) , they are live in maids.

We pay them 7500B each so total we pay 15000B/mo for maids.

Normally i dont give them anything to do on Sunday, and i give them day off for any national holidays

so i would like to know if any of u guys have live-in maid, how many day u allow them on leave per month?

because seem like the wife maid ask me for leave too often now, since my bf give me in charge of the house+maids things

(i think im too kind sometimes too)

PS ,she got very eazy job..i cook and go to market or food shoping by myself coz i love to do this, she only has to clean, and we only have 1 story house thats it!!

Thank you

we have a live-in couple (maid/cook and gardener) and wanted to have some privacy on weekends. they are off friday evening till monday morning. maid is cooking for the weekend in advance and only doing some dishwashing saturdays and sundays.

everybody is happy with the arrangement.

We also have 2 live-in maids - mother and daughter. They each get one day off per week - usually one on saturday and the other on sunday. Since our nanny has saturday and sunday off we need someone for both days so they are not allowed to take the same day off. However, we are often away from Thailand for 1-2 weeks every couple of months so they get plenty of time off then !

Sort of makes you wonder why you even need 1 maid, never mind 2?????

if they have a child living with them or near them, suspect the mother has to take time off for her child: illness, school or whatever;

one of the points male employers always pull out of a hat is that mothers use more time off due to childcare and childcare issues...

but why do u need so many people doing things in your house; then what do u do? even if u work?

cant imagine having even one maid never mind two, wouldnt know what to do with myself then...

We have one live in maid/cook and she has Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday off. She also gets time off whenever we are out of the country, about six weeks per year and the occasional weekend that we are away. The only public holiday she takes off is Christmas as she is christian and wanted to go to church.

When the wife is away, the husband stays at your home, is that right ? Combined with the fact that (IMHO) you are overpaying, and that they seem to have some relationship with the landlord (am I right in assuming that's what you mean ?) they may be just seeing how far they can push you. Have you refused any of her requests for time off ?

Husband maid...interesting...wonder what he wears around the house...especially when you are away ??

Anyway, we have one maid/nanny and she gets 2 days a month off. If we are away, she gets a list of extra stuff to do plus all the normal stuff.

We also over pay ours I know, but this year seems ridiculously hard to find a really good one and I mean good, someone you can trust that you do not have to lock everything away when not around, or even when around, someone that can do all the jobs required all the time without repeatedly being told every day and someone you can trust with your childrens lives.

If you find that person, they are worth it.....this is also in Bkk, upcountry possibly easier and certainly cheaper.

We had a 50yo lady tell us what she wanted, 10k and every sunday and public holidays off and she would not do some things....she did not get hired....we had one turn up with her boyfriend...she did not get hired.

- yes the husband always stay here and he never ask for day off

- we pay 7500 B for each (hire 2 ppl not 1 so they should be fair to eachother)

- landlord hire them when the landlord lived here they only have relationship as Master and maids

- wat i have said they should be fair to each othre mean, if we hire both of them they both should work, but seem like the wife take too much advantage on her husband lol nm maybe he likes that .

I don't know why you need them but you have them so that is that. They are probably overpaid but that is historical as well. I also think they have some relationship with the landlord and are using that to exploit you. I guess you have no experience of managing people and your boyfriend who I suppose is paying for them is just happy if you are happy.

I'd refuse time off, stating that she has already had XYZ day soff extra and set down some guidelines. If you are going to do all the housework, shopping and cooking, then you don't need either of them.

you are paying them to much, for little work for too many days off.

Reduce the days off or the wages and increase the work.

I agree but the damage has been done. Realistically, all that she can do now is refuse extra time off, perhaps increase the household duties and get the guy to do more than clean up after untrained dogs. This might make them resentful and it could backfire with theft or other issues. Claims for dismissal could also result if they are well advised.

I suspect that there is just not enough work to keep them occupied and as the workload is not liekly to increase, quite the opposite in fact, planning an exit strategy might be the best option.

yes i know since my bf move in here and he decided to hire both of them with over-paid rate, he was living here alone before he wanted me to move in and live with him. i was living alone and do things for myself before that why i cant stop doing some house work for myself, i never had maids before, my parents house also never hire maids. since i talk to ppl about that i know it is my fault now, i will need to learn to be the lady of the house and manage them, because i am thai i sometimes feel kreng-jai to the maids coz they r older than me...i know i shouldnt but i try...

I dont want to lower their salary after i moved in the house( i pay maids salary) , im sure if i do that they will get bad attitude to me. betewwn my dogs r well-trainded , they poo around the garden thats all not in a house.

i accept that i still need to learn how to manage ppl more

Agree that it is hard to stop something once started or has been going on for sometime.

You may just be stuck with it as it is, but just try to offload as much of the work as possible onto them to get your monies worth....or move house and start again !

If the woman needs time off to settle family affairs in Isaan, (which could well be dragging on) why don't you offer to let her go but from now on only as "leave without pay?" If you're paying her 7500 baht a month, that's 250 baht a day you could dock from her monthly compensation. I mean, that's only normal. I would expect similar treatment from my employer.

Obviously the current situation isn't working for you so something needs to change. You have to find a balance to suits your family that you think is fair to your staff. Maybe don't listen to us too much, cos we are all different! For example I personally don't think that you are overpaying IF you can get good service that you are happy with. But you might need to try a few things to find that happy balance.

If they are generally good people maybe you can help them find them more suitable employment. There are places such as Villa Supermarket you can post ads, plus online sites like this one and BAMBI. They might not be a *good fit* for your family but they could be perfect for someone else.

Not sure I fully understa this. You say that they sort of came with the house that your boyfriend rented. You then moved in with him but now you are paying for the maids that you don't want or need ?

Thats easy then. You just tell them that now you will be at home all day you no longer require them. Perhaps pay them some severence pay in lieu of notice. As they are live in, I would seek to resolve that issue at least or perhaps rent them some accommodation for a couple of months. Discuss this with them though. Also, find out what your legal obligations would be.

Or move.
