Fire On Sukhumvit Soi 11 Last Night

Featured Replies

last night at around 11:30 i saw a fire at a store on Suk Soi 11. i believe it was in the second building on the right when coming from Sukhumvit. the same building that has a small 7-11 next to the Grand Business Inn. power was out for a while in the area and many surrounding blocks.

just wondering if anyone heard about this, what might have started it and if anybody was hurt. i didn't see anything on the Bangkok Post or Nation websites.

Lots of fire trucks and firemen at the scene as well as tons of sightseers. My wife talked to several firemen who said no one was hurt and it started as an electrical fire. The electric company turned off the power to the immediate area shortly after the fire was reported. It smelled like an electric fire but I saw a lot of smoke coming from the building that would indicate something more combustible.

Have to get back there and see the damage to the bldg.

I was surprised the fire/police didn't even attempt to block off the street and sidewalks. In the US, a three block area around the fire would have been cordoned off to stop vehicles and lookie-lous like me. Electricity in the area was turned off for about 90 minutes.

Smelled like an electrical fire???

Can you define the difference in smell, from an electrical fire and a normal fire???

The smell created by fire reflects what is being burned. According to firefighters I have spoken to, fires not only smell different....but taste different.

It was the small shophouse next to Grand Business Inn - the shop sold bags and luggage and associated rubbish. Whatever the cause, it knocked out the power supply to most of the neighbouring sois for quite a while.
