Hi All,

I hope I'm posting in the right section.......? :o

I'm travelling to Thailand in December and beyond having the flights booked and landing in Bangkok on the 22nd (departing the 5th Jan) Ive no other firm plans as yet.

I've wanted to come for years and this weekend thought what the ###### and booked the flights. I don't want to end up as the subject of a "stupid tourist" thread so I'd really appreciate some tips to make this a christmas and new year holiday to remember (eg good places to head for / ones to avoid etc):

A couple of points:

I'm ealy 30's, travelling alone and just want to meet some great people, take in some great sights and want to be at a blummin good new year's eve party :D

That's pretty much it folks..... Any suggestions?

(Hope I'm not sounding like a stupid tourist already.... :D )

Ray

i might be speaking out of turn here, because you havent given alot of info about what you like to do,so if youre into boozing, partying, and beautifil girls, and your on your own go to pattaya, you will meet alot of like minded people,it wont be too much of a culture shock :o its party town :D you could then meet a nice girl and go travaling around thailand, that could be a start,be warned its like blackpool, depends on what you want mate,up to you :D:D

Tip #1

Leave a you winter coat , hat and gloves at home. People will look at you funny if you wear them here.

Tip #2

If you see Santa, stop drinking you are halucinating.

Tip #3 * THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP *

Keep you gift wrap at all times.

This way you don't recieve the gift that keeps on giving. :D

Have fun and always use the big head for thinking. :o

Best time of year to be in Thailand - both weather-wise and fun-wise.

Don't know what itinerary you have in mind, but a few days in Bangkok, staying at a medium-price hotel, seeing the Royal Palace, Wats (Buddhist Temples), Chinatown and similar through the day, visiting Patpong, Nana and Soi Cowboy for the sleaze at night (or go to some decent restaurants - there's plenty mentioned in the Bangkok sub-forum).

For New Year Pattaya has the big fireworks display down at Bali Hai pier, at the very South of Party City. Depending on your budget, check out the various hotels - Penthouse for a 3,000 baht per night in the middle of the fun, down to Welkom Inn, Sabai Lodge, Honey Inn at the lower end.

Don't go through the agencies for any hotel, look up their own URL and save 50% of the charges. But book as much as you can, because this is the high season.
