Just Wonder Why So Slow

Featured Replies

Hi just a question,i just got yesterday "highspeed internet"from TOT goldcyber 2M/512,I tried some downloads and noticed the speed is very slow,i also made some speedtests here in thaivisa, upload speed about 105kbps and download speed about 215kbps,i think thats very slow, even my mobile phone is faster [gprs/edge].

I use the cables and modem [xavi i 8824 adsl router] delivered by TOT,does anyone know a solution to get a bit more speed?i think 1000baht per month for that is far to expensiv, thanks for any suggestions

Firstly test the SERVER SPEED of your connection.

Without any other uploads / downloads happening.

2048 / 512 is the advertised server speed of your connection - not the internet speed you will get.

Choose the BANGKOK server. If you get something closer to 1700/400 - then your connection is ok.

Its then a matter of chipping away at other "issues" that might be affecting your internet speeds.

Wrong: the advertised speed is the max speed to get but diducted by connection sharing!

The speed you paying for is the maximum connection speed! That speed will be deducted by connection sharing which differs from ISP to ISP. It's altough depend on how much connection active on your Exchange.

Anyway the international speed is quite slow in Thailand and you will get the max possible ,ost of the time by downloads from servers with high upload speed, like Microsoft for example. I gat from MS on an 2.5 Mbps a max download of 300 kByte/s which is 2.4 Mbps!

Better you don't expect to much.

Cheers.

Cybergold is actually very good. but you have to use the right tools to squeeze the most out of it ....

Use a download manager (Flashget., IDM) and CFOS.

My downloads (rapidshare etc) are always 200-225KBs (6-8 connections). Even during the day/evening, downloads are never under 70KBS in IDM (1 file, 4 connections).

What are your http://www.speedtest.net/ results to a US server in any given afternoon?

Although I feel a little bit sarcasm in your post, again .... use the right tools and use multiple connections.

Furthermore, just after connections were upgraded to 2Mb by TOT, Speedtest never showed more than 80-100kbs .... apparently

things have improved since then.

Although I think CFOS also contributes to the relatively fast speed.
