My Thai girlfriend and I recently had a lovely baby girl. I am a US citizen and wonder if I need to have a DNA test in order to obtain a passport for the child. US Embassy Bangkok info on this is unclear. Does anyone have experience with this situation?

Exact same situation as a friend of mine. Was a lot of trouble to get the child recognized as a US citizen. A DNA test was required and could not be done in Thailand.

The test has to be ordered through the embassy from the US (paid for by you) and then the embassy supervises the sample taking and the test is sent back to the US for the actual DNA test.

Since this is third hand info (via me) I could have messed up details slightly but thats the gist of it.

Call Citizen Services and get the info needed to start the ball rolling.

Bit late on posting but since I only saw answers that clashed with my experiance I thought I'd let you know that I Just went thru the process and It was easy and Painless. (Forms proving who I was, an interview with myself, GF and baby attending, some Pics of us.)

It was never mentioned or brought up in any way that I must submit a DNA test.

on Dec 20/07 I recieved her U.S. passport 3 weeks after the application. Renew in 5 yrs.

One of the few I've seen with a Great Picture....lol
