I'm a kinda "no logo" type of guy - I don't like Diesel or Adidas or any other brand plastered all over my clothing. I also detest the "T shirt for you sir" or "looking looking" pestering that accompanies the clothes markets aimed at farang. It's like having an annoying ghost on your shoulder all the time.

Where in Phuket (primarily Patong) can you buy ordinary, plain looking clothing, like the Thais wear? Is there an OTOP for Thais?

Errrr......I've never seen a plain looking no logo t-shirt on any Thai folks.

The most often seen is the pink or yellow polo t-shirts that has this Kings birthday insignia embroidered on the chest.

I just rode around Phuket Town and bought 2 more today.

And I was shopping at Tesco Lotus where I found a lovely dark chocolate brown colour polo tee that has no logo and it was only 129 baht.

But I am female, I am not sure the males department carries similar 'no design'.

Heapsa plain clothes at Big C, Lotus etc.

Cheap as, too.

Mind you, I am a Kiwi.

I buy most shirts at Queen Vic Market in Melbs.

Latest shorts buy was Central in Bangers, had 'em shortened buy guy with sewing machine on Sukhimvit.

What most guys call shorts these days are what girls used to wear, culottes, like split skirts. They look disgusting......... my learned opinion.

BIG C, suits me, literally and physically, in Thailand.

i guess you could have a look around the weekend market opposite Naka temple - turn left at first traffic light intersection on Chao Fah West road just south of the Central Festival/Thainaan Restaurant intersection. Plenty of clothes for the locals. not sure about sizes though.

I need to go on a diet, the clothes here in thailand are made for stick thin teenagers. :o

Every trip to Thailand I lose at least a kilo per week.

Usually 2 -3 month stays.. flies back at almost same rate once home...PMPL.

Wall to wall food in Bangers, love the place.

Foods galore in Chalong my fave lay back joint...... Come On Bar.... Vises Rd

Drink lotsa Chang, and strangely, flavoured milk.

Milk half the price than in NZ, strange but true.

Kitty , have fun, I do.

In Patong, you may be able to get a limited variety of cheap plain stuff in the clothing section (upstairs) at Carrefour (Jungceylon).

The OTOP in Patong (so-called, but not really at all - little in the way of genuine Thai crafts and other product) is near the south end of 200 Pi Rathutit Rd, but it is mainly the fake monogrammed and printed stuff found just about everywhere else - unlikely to find plain stuff, but you never know. (Every now and then, the police go down there raiding for the fake stuff, but the traders are well supplied with informers and close shutters prior to most of the raids.)

It is primarily for tourists and skilled bargaining is required to get anywhere near realistic prices. (In common with all tourist places around the island, if you really know what you are doing, no problem; otherwise you will be ripped off but left thinking you got a reasonable price.)

In Phuket Town try the Export Shop, on the ground floor of Ocean Shopping Mall (on Tilok Thit Rd, next to Robinson's) where they have a lot of stuff that was produced for export but has minor imperfections. You have to check it pretty carefully, but most of the stuff is made of good quality material that breathes. They also have stuff in 2x 3x sizes.

The selection changes, but you can usually get nice, plain shirts there for about 150 baht each.

Thanks. What I want more than anything is a plain blue hat (not a baseball cap), without Diesel being splattered all over it. So to speak. I see them on Thais and Burmese workers everywhere, but can't figure out where they buy them.

Sorry Super Hans - I had erroneously assumed you were not familiar with the place (I now understand you are an expat). I suppose if you have a Thai wife or ladyfriend and she happens to be with you at the time, you could ask her to ask one of the young Thai guys where he bought his. Unless you are Thai- fluent, trying (yourself) to explain you wanted a hat sans logo would probably be an interesting, if somewhat drawn-out, exercise.

Been there, done that. They've tended to stare at me with a mixture of pity and fear, before walking off thinking I must be mentally disturbed. Never again.
