Fly To New Zealand

Featured Replies

Guys

There must be some NZers around.

We want to visit my son in Wellington this March for about a month.

It appears that both Thai and Emirates fly direct to Auckland.

Have been quoted 109800+7900 each for Thai Business and 112200 each (including surcharge) for Emirastes Business so more or less same-same.

Have never flown Emirates Business.

OK can someone enlighten me on which they would choose.

Also about flights from Auckland to Wellington..plentiful?

Maybe stay a day in Auckland..reasonable hotel?

Thanks guys

I can only respond to the first part of the question in that if I were faced with a choice between flying Thai or Emirates Business Class I would not even consider Thai for one moment. Emirates has very high standards all around.

EK standards nowadays are not what they were some years ago. that goes for the food (which is negligible) and for seating comfort (very important to me). make sure that your seats in business are not in the middle row. i -for example- hate paying for business class and then perhaps have a stranger sitting left and a stranger right next to me :o

Flew down Thai business just before Christmas.

Service is good, though the seats aren't particilarly comfortable to sleep in, they flatten out at something like a 60 degree angle, not truely flat, so I was slipping down constantly. I almost prefer the older style business class seats, much easier to sleep in lazee-boy IMHO!! :o

With Thai, flight leaves at 7pm, gets into Auckland at about 1pm. So you get a good chance to get a decent kip with all the meals that they feed you. You have to go through customs and immigration there in AKL. Once you come out, there will immediately be a place where you can check in a bag for the connecting domestic leg.

Then either walk (if it is a nice day) 15 mins to the domestic terminal, or catch a minibus. I walked, and it is a pleasent enough walk, a good chance to stretch the legs.

I'd leave a bit of time between flights, just in case. Coming from Thailand, immigration always think you are doing something dodgy!

I've flown the bangkok-auckland direct route in Thai business class maybe 20+ times now. I think it is great.

From Auckland, connect to Wellington on Air NZL domestic. Easy enough to book online.

Both airlines are star alliance if thats the loyalty program you happen to be with.

Hi there John,

I'm a kiwi from Auckland..

There are plenty of flights from Auckland to Wellington..check here www.airnewzealand.com or www.qantas.co.nz and click on domestic flights, these two should be enough for you to find an adequate route to Wellington.

In Auckland there are plenty of hotels from Novotel, Sky City (Seems popular if you wanna gamble at the casino) or if you want something with a CBD feeling, but with the entire ocean behind you, you might like to try the Hilton.

I'm not so sure about Wellington because I have'nt been there in almost 10 years, but I guess you'll be staying with your son or he'll be able to help you out with that.

Once you arrive in AKL Airport, you'll be able to find the AirBus which will take you to the hotel you wish to reside in.

Have a nice trip!

Spot-on. I flew with Emirates Dubai-Bangkok Business Class and got stuck on that middle seat. It is actually impossible to get out without moving the person to the left or right of you. I was stuck because they were sound asleep with eye patches on. So I had to stand on my seat and jump out.

I was confused because I always request an aisle seat (that is on my Skywards, reward card) But I think that full-paying Business Class customers get first choice.

I would recommend Emirates, especially Business Class: Register with skywards.com before you travel to New Zealand because you will get lots of air miles.
