Depends a lot on the quality of land, availability of water, etc. Growing rice could provide about 20K/m before costs with one harvest/yr in Sisaket, bale up the straw for own use and sale, fill in with crops such as marrows, water melons, tomatoes (take them to market yourself), perhaps set aside a few rai for chillies. By all means keep a few cattle and get grass etc from the hedgerows in the rice growing season. Got a fish pond? - for water and fish. Grow a few fast growing trees (eucolyptus) in the hedges. A few mango and papaya trees, beans, egg plants and, with a bit of work and a lot of luck, you should be there.

Hi Jeanno

I've received your reply this morning to my email. Your understanding of my email is correct: 30 rai should return B150,000 profit per year, equivalent to B12,500 per month. This is the case for one-year crops, i.e. for cassava harvested after 12 months. Harvesting every two years should return a profit of B480,000 every two years, equal to B20,000 per month.

You asked for any more tips: have a read at some of my other cassava posts just written in the past two days.

Kind regards

Khonwan

From my original email:

Please see below, a copy of my email sent to Torrenova today in response to his Financial Self Sufficiency From The Land post.

I’ve reared beef cattle (had 160 head at one stage) for years and pigs on my 200-rai farm…but no longer for various reasons. Farming can be very hard, especially when you have zero experience. Do not be put off by this though. Cassava is actually very easy. Your Thai family are probably already knowledgeable enough in this, if they come from a farming background.

As you shall see from my , YES, you can easily get a return that averages more than B30,000 per month from 54 rai.

Forget about buying calves at this stage – the returns are not worth the bother (and it only takes one snake bite to kill your investment!).
