I will be marrying my Thai fiancee in the end of July / Beginning of August and i would like some recommendations of nice places for our honeymoon.... I was thinking maybe Koh Phi Phi.... But i have never been there before so i don't know.

We both love nightlife too so a beautiful beach with clear water and somewhere that we can travel to to find some bars would be nice.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance :o

What's the best and most beautiful islands? Somewhere not too populated with people. I'd like a nice bunglow on the beach with aircon.

Not forgetting we would like a few bars within travel distance too ha ha. All beach holidays get too boring for us. :o

Has to be in Thailand because my fiancee is Thai and therefore i think she would need a visa to go to the maldives right? We don't have long together so getting a visa is a no no as i have to go back to England not long after the wedding. We only have just under 2 weeks to get the marriage organised, Get the buddist monk thing done at her home town, Then go for a nice honeymoon etc etc.

Ahh I am not sure, 12 years ago we went on honeymoon, she got visa on arrival as did I.

Check it out, the Maldives is very tourist easy, it is a major part of their income.

Hopefully you already have one. Its your passport.

That just means she has a passport.

Go for it. A good memory. I am sure the oldest was conceived on a reef in the Maldives ( too much information :o )

Yeah i'm seriously thinking about it, I'm just waiting for the mrs to say yes or no. I have asked her though ha ha... :o

Where did you stay? Which island? Is it cheap over there?.... I've been checking out the flight prices online and for 2 people and from Bangkok to the Maldives it is going to cost £1200 :D

That's definitly too much for me, But i'll ask the travel agents in Thailand when i go there in July, Maybe i can get it a little cheaper out there?

I have decided against going to the Madives, I have been reading up on it on http://wikitravel.org/en/Maldives and i don't like what it says ha ha, Very boring, Very expensive ($5 / £2.50 for a bottle of water) :o , No places to eat except in the hotel, Or in Male. You can't drink alcohol outside of the resort :D .....

I think we'll stay in Thailand. :D

What you should also consider is the time of year - southwest monsoon. I'd urge you to forget about Phi Phi and anywhere on the west coast at that time of the year unless you like rain. If you're going to stay in Thailand then I'd advise you to go to Samui as the weather will almost certainly be better than anywhere else at that time of the year.

The time of the southwest monsoon is also the rain season in the Maldives so, I'd forget about them too.

It's the dry season in Bali & east Malaysia. In my experience, despite being on the west coast the weather in Penang is good at that time of the year.

Koh Samui over Koh Phi Phi anyday! There are some beautiful resorts in Koh Samui and if you're on one of the smaller beaches, it isn't so crowded at that time of year.

Ohhhh ok! Well just to answer your question we stayed (that time) on Kanifinolhu

It's actually not quite what you imagine I think from your answer. They are not actually hotels but are resort islands., and usually very beautifully done to fit in with the island and not spoil it. Most people actually go "all inclusive" because it works out cheaper. It includes all your watersports (except diving), food, drink and even ciggies if you one of the addicted. Some of the islands cater to the younger end of the market and have nightclubs etc (although I have not been there). There are boat trips to other resorts if you want a change of scene. We went to the Club Med Island to eat. Superb food as you might expect, but I would not want to stay there as it is overbuilt.

Boring? Well yes after you get tired of of all the diving, snorkling, sailing, parascending, fishing, barbeques, beach parties, boat trips, boozy evenings and superb sunsets, it does get a bit tedious :D

If you get bored you can always take your new wife for an evening stroll down the deserted beaches if you get my drift :D

Ok skip that one then. The problem is that most of the places in Thailand with the nightlife you seek seem to be accompanied with grotty beaches (in terms of cleanliness). It's even spoiling Samui now, 10 years ago it was not but development is rapid.

Errrrr... Koh Chang? (before that goes the same way......) Or stop near Rayong?, there are some beautiful places around there.

For a honeymoon, to be honest, as a "special holiday" I would not go anywhere in Thailand if I could help it, but I do appreciate budget and all that.

Somebody suggested Bali. That would fit the bill for your needs, you might want to research costs there. Almost certainly cheaper than the Maldives which I agree is an expensive option.

When you wake up, you may want to review your last 3 posts in this thread; in the meantime some are trying to be useful concerning the OP's question............

Posted

We spent our honeymoon in the Amari resort on Chaweng Beach, Samui. Wonderful!

At the time I compared travel agents with their own website and the website had the best deal.

Judging by the fact that I think the OP wants it in Thailand, then we need to know where he knows and where she is from and knows. Seems a little strange to be thinking about a honeymoon as needing bars and nightlife but perhaps he should consider Pattaya ? Loads of nightlife.

But lets look at some facts.

Now it is January but he will not be back for 6 months and then he's here for only 2 weeks until he has to go back to the UK, without her, his bride. And he can't save £1200 in 6 months ? Is this a troll ? Certainly not all is as it seems.

Whilst I admire love for love's sake, the OP sounds broke as hel_l and perhaps he should hold off marrying until he can afford to take care of his wife. No mention of sinsot yet or perhaps we should let ma inl aw tell him about that one.

1) Why would i bother being a troll? It dosn't help me at all now does it, I've been a member on here for quite a long time now. :o

2) Yes i cannot save the £1200 because i already have a lot to save for already, The flight out there, The wedding, My hotel costs, The buddhist ceremony and family thing WITH THE SIN SOT, Yeah yeah yeah. I know.

3) I should hold it off until i can take care of my wife? I've been taking care of her ok for years already. All i need to do now is get married then get her her spouse visa.

Yeah me and the mrs have already disscussed where to go and she says Koh Samui. Which is good for me as then we can also get the ferry to Koh Pha Ngan to check out a fullmoon party one night if there is one on then. :o

Thanks, I may look at Rayong briefly as i'm going to Pattaya for a couple of days to meet my friend and his thai wife before we travel near to Ubon Ratchasima to my fiancees home town called Kantaraluk.... Well nearish... It's 80K away or something i think. :D

Check out this resort, very nice place, on the beach, close to some good bars and not too expensive.......Perfect.

Or

http://www.aiyapura.com/

If you want to spend a little extra cash, it is your honeymoon and I'm sure your wife to be is worth it.

That does indeed look very nice, I'll bookmark that for later in the year as i don't know the date we will be married yet, I still have to get all the embassy things done, Then go to the Amphur to get married then go to her familys town to to the buddhist monk ceremony etc etc.

Cheers for the links seapok :D:o

I have been around quite a bit and did visit Phi Phi 3 days ago. It is known to be "one of the most beautiful islands in the world"! It is not! It is a big market with hundreds of shops. The beaches are ruined by the very heavy boattraffic. Nothing to see. If you like shopping you can find everything in Bangkok for half the price. The nightlife might be OK because we could clearly hear the disco half the night even in our sailingboat far away.

:D:o:D
