Fire At Santika

----------------------------------------

I've heard so much about this place, great band, nice clientele, great food and a cocktail selection that would have Tom Cruise's tongue hangin' out....

I got invited to a birthday party there last night and was told that this was a hang out for many top politicians kids as well as the creme de la creme of the hi-so fraternity. Great.

"Last time we came Thaksin's son was here surrounded by bodyguards" I should think so too.

I'd rather be surrounded by soi dogs was my reaction at the end of the night mind you.

Anyway, as we were driving a five year old motor and not a BMW / Merc, we got snubbed by the valet parking so parked nearby the entrance just to cramp their style. The usual ID card nonsense at the door with the OTT security running a metal detector around my knackers, what do you think's in there? A bloody chastity belt? A Magnum? I don't keep ice cream down my balls mind you.

Upon entry, you have a instant view of the impressive stage and JBL sound system, as well as a few nifty looking lights. The numerous staff whisk you efficiently to your candle lit table while pouring you a piss-weak whisky soda, whether you like it or not. The prices here are apparently expensive but I didn't venture to the bar due to the service of the cute waitress.

"That girl is a top model" I was told by my friend as she pointed to a leggy but plain looking luk-kreung

"Oh really" I replied..."How nice".

"She advertises many product"

"Like what?"

"Louis Vitton and Rolex"...I thought I'd try and impress my friend by reminding her of my TV ads..

" I did modelling last year for mobile phones, tea bags and an energy drink" (which is true)

" but I never see no more on TV" ..she was impressed...obviously.

Anyway the music in here is as usual too loud, and badly mixed I'll add, and to blast heavy hiphop before a band come on and do slow numbers was a bit stupid in my book.

The band wern't bad, but wern't great either. Around 11pm the crowds start piling in...flashy looking <deleted> and their stuck up girls. I was in the wrong place as my idea of a night out involves half a shandy and a bible reading of some sort so I wasn't in the mood. With the music at 200 Decibels and the girls impossible to talk to, I find it ludicrous that this is a 'hip' place to hang. I'm getting old.

After stumbling to the toilet now on the wrong side of 8 whisky sodas, I was shocked that the attendant demanded a tip for handing me a wet towel from a microwave, what is that? a party trick ? If it was it wasn't worth 20 baht. I dried my hands on the back of my trousers.

Overall, this place is poncey and too loud but busy for a monday night. I got the feeling this was the 7 day a week rich spoilt party crowd who have absolutely sod all in common with yours truely even if they were into The Bee Gees.

I'm getting too long in the tooth for this.

Nice post, DJ Pat. A great account of a clearly awful place. I myself am looking forward with great anticipation to never going there. I simply can't wait. I would much rather endure electro-shock therapy than put up with the pretentious hi-so <deleted> popular amongst the oh-so trendy crowd.

However, could be fun to go steaming in with a bunch of my Chelsea Firm mates to check out the quality of the bouncers. :o

They have more security staff than you can imagine, looking for trouble...the way they prowl around is disturbing.
