THAI receives Halal food certificate

BANGKOK: -- National carrier Thai Airways International (THAI) on Sunday received a certificate for Halal food prepared by its catering department.

A Memorandum of Understanding certifying THAI’s Halal food was signed at Suvarnabhumi Airport, located in Bangkok’s neighboring province of Samut Prakan.

Attending the ceremony were THAI president Apinan Sumanaseranee, managing director of THAI’s Catering Services Department Pisamai Chandrubeksa and chairman of the Islamic Committee in Samut Prakan Paisal Promyong.

Halal refers to food permissible according to Islamic law. It is estimated 70 per cent of Muslims worldwide follow Halal standards.

THAI provides 5,000 Halal meals per day on its flights as well as to 10 Muslim-operated airlines and that number is expected to increase now the airline has received the Halal food certificate.
