Upon taking out Health Insurance with a Thai Health Insurer: Is the coverage generally limited to incurring "Healt Problem Events" within Thailand or does the coverage include such events also outside of Thailand?

Or, in other words and for example: If the "Farang" must be Hospitalized during a visit to his home country, will Thai Health Insurers cover this as well? And if yes, at what price?

Thanks for replies or useful links concerning this matter. Cheers!

BUPA will cover you worldwide but only for accident & emergency outside Thailand. If you are travelling outside Thailand I would recommend taking out travel insurance which will cover any medical costs up to a certain amount.

Thx Lucy. Travel Insurance is a way to go. What I have been offered as far as Travel Insurance is concerned is a bit confusing. For example, within the "fine print" it hardly ever becomes clear how long a stay outside of Thailand is concidered "Travel" or having "Residentual Status" in the foreign country where a possible "hospitalization-event" might occur. Hmmm......?

A Thai medical health policy can be valid worldwide but of course at the Thai level opfcoverage which may or probably may not be adequate for the high cost of medical expenses in fanrangland.

Travel medical cover is not expensive and covers much better while out of the country

Wrong! BUPA covers you worldwide with the exception of USA which is ONLY accident and emergency!

Clearly, the details are going to vary by individual provider.

But, when I shopped a variety of Thai companies last year, most had exclusions for the U.S. (only emergency coverage). And many, but not all, had exclusions for Japan and/or Europe.

I remember some divided their coverage into three categories: full coverage in Thailand, good coverage elsewhere in the world except the USA, and limited coverage in the USA (because of the high costs there).
