Farang Yuppies In Thailand

They patronise hi-so hangouts and have high class girlfriends and like to be 'on the scene' (photographed in Big Chilli mag?)..they dress funkily in a way I don't personally agree with and are snobbish toward anybody with a baht less than them. They wear sunglasses in nightclubs, have pointed shoes and sometimes sport streaky hair. Also they like to snub fellow farangs (not that I wanted to say hello to you anyway you <deleted>)

Now I don't know if any of you post here, I doubt it, and frankly I don't care, but in truth I hate you. I'm not jealous of you, it's just that socially you act in a way you wouldn't back home.

So what if you're gonna marry a politicians daughter, she's a farang whore anyway.

Who cares if you drink in the Met Bar

Bully for you if you if you had a VIP card for the Ministry Of Sound..where did that get you?

So what if you can be 'seen' at an artyfarty film premiere at the Scala

Who cares that you stick half a pound of cocaine up your nose every five minutes (most of you do)

Big deal if you are a regular at 87 Club, the place is <deleted> anyway....

I do care, I give them a shoulder to cry on.

What gets me is the farang 'wannabe hi-so' who is a nothing loser back home, is not rich but as he's living a masquerade already here in Bangkok and nobody really knows him so he can live out a 'fantasy' life here and convince himself....

And just how do they cope with everyday life in Thailand?

- they cannot survive outside air-con spaces, unless they are sunbathing near the swimmingpool.

- they think any apartment which costs less than 30.000 a month is a flearidden dump.

- they think Thai food is cool, as long as its not too spicey and is prepared in a 4star hotel.

- they believe the elite card was the smartest move Toxin ever made, and they own one.

The ones I have come across have always given me the oppourtunity to 'get them back' by being rude to them, if they ask me something about the music I'm playing or ask for a request then I'm just short and stern with them and they know why..

I once played at a mixed Thai / farang hi-so wedding on the top floor of the (then) Meridien Hotel and it was like "let's try and be as rude to the lowly DJ as possible"

Needless to say I wouldn't "play one more" at the end.

Am I one of these? In a word, not no but ###### NO!

I guess it's beside the fact that your diatribe can hardly be characteristic of anything but a very small minority of the overall falang population in LoS.

Amongst the full-timers, I would have to say it would be an almost insignificant number.

Do you want to try to work on a more realistic description, or can you find a shorter way to say that perhaps you don't really like the clientele that you serve and maybe would like to find a different line of work?
