Here in Issan, farmers are buying truckloads of "key oiy" (sugarcane sh*t), to spread on thier fields. Usually on fields of grass.

Im assuming its a byproduct of the sugar manufacturing process. Does anyone know what it is and what nutrients it might contain?

It sells for 1500 B per 10 wheeler load.

Its the trash from the mill - once the cane has gone through the rollers. Its fertiliser value is limited - think of more as a compost type addition. Also good for improving drainage.

I think you will find its farang name is bagasse, I used it in Oz as an orchid growing medium for seedling orchids, I have seen it used as a top dressing to help retain moisture and as a weed supressant.
