I watched the interview and was shocked that such a man is in control of a country like Thailand. He dosent seem to be much of an intelect.

Unlike western leaders such as the intellectual giant that runs the US of A?

Thailand voted this pig-faced murderer into power and they will have to deal with what ever he does!! Everytime i saw him on the T.V he was at a local market stuffing his face with fried chicken or Pad Thai!! keep the people stupid and this is what happens!!

Does anyone have a link for the interview??

I read the interview in The Nation. Incredible!

Walter Cronkite was asked in retirement, who was the most articulate of the many US presidents he had interviewed in his long career. Walter replied, "Jimmy Carter" Well, I would venture that Samak is the most inarticulate current president of any country. Even when one considers English is not his native tongue, he comes across as brain addled.

If a majority of Thai voted for him, then that's what they deserve. And that same man will be directing policy and appointing dozens of others to important positions?! Good luck Thailand!

Yes,but he has a convincing smile, confidence,& abit of charisma.I think this gets votes....lies,morals,or honesty aren't so important.

Just look at what goes on in USA politics for further confirmation of this. :o

I saw an interview with him on Al-Jazeera this morning also !

making a fool of himself taking the bait , which is very unpolitician alike

in my opinion .

He warned the woman interviewer to do her homework better , you guess

it right , questions about the massacre and the garbage corruption .

He was really irritated in the interview , probably forgetting that he now is the face

and the leader of the entire nation .

Anybody else seen this ?

Apart from his lying, oafish and insensitive remarks about the deaths in '76, I was struck by his child-like view of the nature of politics.

"What's wrong to be right wing? The right wing is with the K***. The left wing is communist."

He would have been at home in America during the McCarthy era, methinks.

I'm surprised this hasnt generated more discussion. I guess the quality of Burger Kings in Bangkok and Danny's woes are more important to most members.

His comments on Oct. 1976's events were discussed in the Thailand's newsclippings section (Samak thread) along with grisly photos of more than one dead. Really, what can you say about something like this. It is like those that deny the holocaust ever occurred. People like this exist all over the world (unfortunately).

Unfortuantly the media in Thailand doesnt have the intestinal fortitude to take him on.Investigative reporters in Bangkok ?,no such animal.

Take him on and do what? Reveal what they have already written about and what people already know?

The problem is that most farang who dislike Samak are ardent supporters of the murderers (Sonthi's Army) of the innocent Thai people in Oct. 1976. Where was the outrage when the tanks rolled into Bangkok?

It's funny that Sonthi's Army gets so little of the blame for murdering Thai citizens, yet civilians such as Samak get tagged with the atrocity. Too many folks drinking the Thai Army kool-aid!

Exactly - he might have egged them on but there are plenty of others with blood on their hands who also congratulated the murdering bastards afterwards too. Better not go into that though.

The army did not much to do with in in 76 but they did in 92, in 76 it was the police, the Village Scouts, Regd Gauers, Border Patrol Police and others

Who are their patrons and sponsors though too?

Whenever I see this man on the box, I shudder at the thought of him representing Thailand abroad, mingling with other world leaders.

Still, he'd fit right in in Burma, wouldn't he? Actually, you could say that about almost all previous Thai PMs. Depressing...

I'm surprised this hasnt generated more discussion.

here is the discussion in other thread:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=166431

the thing is - Samak is may be the least guilty culprit in that event

and stirring up this history will probably see more heads tumbling pretty soon

may be he has intentionally did deny those facts - to start this stir up and to see the downfall of many influential ppl

perhaps though Samak has some points :

If I'm a dirty man like that, if I'm corruption, why I was elected?

Why this party get 233 seats? Why? Why the one who is very clean get 165? Why?

Just ask me the question… just answer the question to me.

especially taking into consideration all the circumstances and obstacles the junta made to make sure PPP doesn't win the election.

The thing that struck me about the interview (and I've only read the transcript, not seen the real thing) is how easily the guy is capable of telling bare-faced lies, particularly about the deaths in the student riots. There has been follow-up today in the BkkPost with them getting rebuttals from academics, but of course the Post and Nation are too meek to take it on properly.

It's sad and a savage indictment of Thai politics, but I guess the old maxim is true. People get the leaders they deserve.

I am shocked to say I agree with you. The words coming from this big man's mouth are truly beyond the pale. Except I do think the people of Thailand deserve better, maybe this is a consequence of that karma thing. Another maxim I suppose is apt: things will get worse before they get better.

This is a joke when God creates the world, he has to balance resources and be fair to all nations.

US has Rocky Mountain, Niagara Falls and also desert, tornado.

Thailand has natural resources, beautiful beachers, etc. and also Thai politicians.

Many Thais are still in shock since late December :o , we don't live in a perfect world.

Ohhh I don't think all of them expected to have him as a PM, and I wasn't surprised when those gave the interview they elected Thaksin's party, not Samak :D and how many of them know the truth of this political event in October, 1976.

I wonder if we had the election for a PM what the result would be :o .
