Bangkok Bank Internet Access

Featured Replies

Bangkok Bank internet access is a bit rickety but it seems to get the job done. I've been using it within Thailand for a few months now. No real problem for me.

Does it work okay from outside Thailand? For example, do they have any security that prevents you accessing your account from outside Thailand?

I checked at my BB branch today and they said no problem, so I'm just posting to double-check whether anyone here has had any such problems.

Have a little lady who's going to be expecting me to be making the occasional transfer soon, once I get back to the UK - from my BB account to her BB account.

Wouldn't want anything to go wrong :o

Should not be a problem.

Naka.

It worked when I was in the U.S. Shouldn't be a problem.

Same for me...worked fine for me from Los Angeles over the Christmas holidays.

And in fact, has worked fine for me here from Bangkok during the past six months. Never had any problem accessing or using BKKB's Bualuang Banking.

Only minor quibble... As I recall, to long-on you need to be using IE on a PC.... you can't log-on using Firefox.

To leapfrog on the OP's post :o, Are there any special requirements for getting Internet access? I have a BKK Bank savings account with Debit card...

Cheers!

I set up my online banking with BKKB at the same time I opened a local savings account with them (and obtained their debit card).

As I recall, to do everything, they just wanted to see my passport and evidence of a Thailand address. To establish online banking, I believe you would also need to have a Thai mobile number where you can receive SMS messages. As part of the set-up process, as best as I can recall, the bank sends an SMS to your designated Thai mobile number.

According to the bank's web site (they have a FAQs section that deals with farang issues), they require a valid BKK Bank savings or current account, a passport and a "work visa" to establish online banking. In another section, they were more detailed, saying bring work permit or Thai certificate of residence.

However, in my case, they didn't seem to care about work permit or not. My passport has a B (business) visa stamp, and they were fine with that, even without a work permit. I think they also wanted to see some proof of living here, but I didnt need to show a certificate of residence. I just showed my apartment lease.

Great, I'll look into it. Thanks a lot jf_chandler. :o

Another way to get money to your lady while you are abroad

is to give her a debit card from an account in your country.

Then you can easily add money to the account and she can

withdraw at any ATM in LOS.

You just need an extra account that has a very low to no balance

except for the money you intend to give her that month.

IE Tab add-on for firefox gets around this

if using Opera you can change the browser ID string per site and get around this as well, not sure for firefox

I'm not sure the relationship is going to be long term enough to do this yet :o But thanks for the idea.

And thanks everyone else for your comments.

Before you use internet banking in Thailand, make sure you read the fine print to see who is responsible if anything goes wrong.

Until a recent court case, which I think may be subject to appeal, the customer is held to be liable, in principal even if the bank makes a mistake. Customer beware.
