Hi

I was thinking about how much should a person earn annually when he choose to send his kid through the elementary school, high school and university in Thailand. I'm thinking on the good international schools where you will learn high quality English, and for the university I was thinking on Thammasat. I read on the internet that each year of elementary school can cost 200.000 baht. and each year at a university can cost 400.000 baht, is that true? If that is true how can a normal well paid family sent their children to school? I mean it's not enough to earn 50.000 baht a month which is much, right? to sent your child to those schools.

Is it only the families with own business that can afford it, or can you get stipendiums?

Hope you can help me out

My school is more than 300k this year plus registration and re-enrollment. I have no idea which university in Thailand is 400k+ because Chula is around 120k depending on which program, Mahidol is 210k, Ramkhamheng is 60k, ABAC is around 200k, and all these are international programs.

Some schools may give discounts but I think that that is very rare. My dad makes around 5 million baht in a year, but I know penniless missionaries who can manage to send three kids to international schools. 50k, however is probably not enough to maintain a international school lifestyle in Bangkok.

Thanks for the answer. Can an expat that works for a private Thai company earn let's say 80.000 a month if he got a master degree in marketing and Thai work experience? Your father is making 5 mil baht which is very very much. I guess he has his own company right? But to be able to send a child through the whole educational system from elementary school to university one should have an annually salary on minimum 90-100k+ right, if you also want a decent living?

I have read somewhere that expats should consider oneself lucky if they get 40.000-50.000 bath a month is that true, is that an average salary for a person with a MBA and let's say one year work experience??

Where did you get those figures from?

A good Prathom school in Khon Kaen costs around 20,000 a year. Mattayom much the same. 100,000 if it's an English program.

My friends daughter is going to Chula next year - 400,000.

I'm sure ABAC is more than 200,000.

Another friend sent 1 million for his kids a year at Bangkok Pattana

A penniless missionary can't send their kid to international school.

Must be nice having a rich daddy :o

My son is currently in the 12th grade at Ruamrudee International School. He has been going there since kindergarten. I track his school expenses each year and so far I have paid B4,220,000 for his education, counting this years tuition. We're not wealthy. I retired in 1998 and live off investments and now social security benifits. We just had to make sacrifices on other things to afford his schooling.
