Pattaya residents have been advised to prepare water reserve tanks for consumption during the dry season, and city hall is preparing for the probably inevitable drought by surveying and repairing existing public storage facilities.

Mayor Niran Wattanasartsathorn led a meeting on February 1 to prepare for a week of surveying, repairing, and constructing water tanks to provide enough reserve water for the dry season.

Niran said the Public Works Department had already been briefed to begin the work, and that meanwhile private residences that have their own water storage facilities should clean and prepare them ready for use.

Public Works director Pichet Uthaivatananon said that officials were being dispatched throughout the city and the outer areas to survey all public storage devices to ensure they are able to hold water. The officials would also be able to answer enquiries from the public about maintenance of the domestic installations.

Pichet pointed out that anyone preparing to build a house or a commercial property in Pattaya now has to ensure that an adequate water storage tank is included in the designs for the project, otherwise Chonburi Province would withhold permission for the construction work.

Did the mighty powers that be not guarantee last year that there would be no more water shortages ? :D

What happened with the grand pipeline that was supposed to bring additional water into the area's reservoirs ? Did it ever get completed ?

What really annoys me is how it seems certain areas get cut off from the water supply (quite regularly), while others never seem to lack (despite never seeing any water delivery trucks).

Guess I need to move to an area that has "higher-influence" residents to ensure a steady supply year round. :o

I live at Mabprachan and the water level is really low again.

When I went away just before Xmas, whilst the S.E.A games were on, the lake was quite full. I came back 5 weeks later and it's looking like a puddle again. :o

Yeah, I noticed that too in a recent drive-by. Maybe all the additional folks here for high-season has quickly drained the reservoir.

Thailand (and many parts of the developing and developed world) have serious ongoing problems of water shortages. There are many reasons for this. Here in our little part of the world, all the new tourist developments and condos AND the continuing expansion of all the industrial areas of the Eastern Seaboard will put continuing pressure on water supplies in this area.
