Because of the close links between Thailand and Lao I have heard that a farang married to a Lao National is eligible for a marriage visa in Thailand. Does anyone know if this is true and are there and special forms/requirements involved in the visa application.

Edit: there is no such thing as a "marriage visa" in Thailand in any case.

Marrige in Laos is not straight forward. I looked into some elements of dating in Laos some years ago and the laws I understand are very anti farang and enforced outside the capital.

Nope, the only thing is that your wife as a Lao national can come and go as she pleases wihtout a visa, each entry 30 days, unlimited entries.
