This shrub is used a lot around here as food. Just the leaves at the tips of the branches are used. I think it only grows in Chumpon, Ranong, and Surat Thani. We have quite a bit on the land by our house, but I wonder if it will grow in the shade of the rubber trees?

Yes - along the coast it will so long as it is able to get a couple hours of sunlight (direct) per day - so not in a mature rubber plantation. Inland - no, it will need to be out in the open all the time.
