Assuming no delays on your incoming flight and assuming your check-in at DM opens a couple of hours before the flight then this is perfectly possible.

Assuming your travel plans are under your direct control and no one is providing a inter-airport shuttle for you I would suggest that you plan for transit by public bus, but have back up plans to jump in a taxi and pay 350 Baht or whatever the current fee is if you need to make up time.

However: I do know there is a direct airport to airport minibus shuttle that charges 50 Baht per head, but I have not taken it myself.

I own a car and drive to most places within in Thailand on the one occasion I flew from CM to DM all transit arrangments were made for me, a car collected us at the airport etc.

I have a friend that flew into to DM last year and was guided to the inter-airport shuttle (50 Baht) by customer services desk of Thai Air International. I have no idea if the shuttle was run by Thai Air International or a third party company. I would guess that there is a free shuttle for people coming in on international flights that have onward connections to flights within Thailand, I would assume that this shuttle leaves on a regular basis however I would also assume that the people on those connecting flights are pulled to one side on leaving the aircraft or go to the transfers desk rather than going through passport control and collecting their luggage etc.

Are you transiting through BKK by your own choice (booked one leg to BKK internationally - then a separate flight from DM to elsewhere) or has your travel agent just not told you about the connection details?

would you know if it costs much more to buy ones domestic ticket at the airport, i imagine it would, the ticket i was looking at through thai airways was under "hot deals" but said i could nt change the date, which worrried me a bit because if my flight into bkk is late i might miss my connection

Hmmm, lets see....

Landing 12:30

Immigration and pick-up luggage by 13.30

Free shuttle to Transportation Center (I understand you still need to do that to get the 555 to DM) 14:00

Wait for bus to depert 14:30

Arrive Dong Muang 15:30

Two hours to your domestic flight, check in closes 45 min before dept, looks doable.

There is a mini van which takes about 30 minutes during that time of the day from either airport to the other. Location ground floor just before the bus stop eastern side ( go out turn left) BKK airport. Price baht 50 one way. The air con 554 or 555 bus takes longer, possibly no seats and cost baht 34. For 16 baht more it is a much better deal with the mini van. :o

The mini van location at DMK is just within the airport taxi entrance by the pedestrian bridge from Wat Don Muang.

You should be able to make it with plenty of time.

:D

If you have not purchased your ticket to dep from DMK, why go there....crazy.

Air Asia will sell you the cheapest ticket, it is LCC, but who cares for short hops.

It leaves from Swampypool, no hasles.

Better still, book Air Asia online, so simple..... www.airasia.com

If not, just go to their counter on departure concourse, buy a ticket, and yer away smiling.

With lotsa time, go have a feed at "Magic Food Point Cafe", near gate 8 ground floor.

Ask some airport worker for directions, great place, about cheapest in Thailand.

No nerd to be ripped off by main upper concourse food places.

First timer, gofrit, you will be amazed.

First off, why isn't this in the airport category?

2nd, there should be FREE shuttle mini-buses leaving every 20 minutes from each airport going to the other - even if there is only one passenger. It's the least the Airports authorities can do to help ease the inconvenience of the bad planning from building an inadequite new airport (Thanks Thaksin for the rushed bungle that burnished your ego, and padded the pocketbooks of you and your cronies).

3rd, it's a sad commentary on Thailand's tourist industry that a traveler has to worry whether 4.5 hours is enough time to get from one part of the city to another. A vacation in Thailand should be something that is cherished. It's an expensive holiday where each day should be special. Instead, a minimum half day is spent weaving through one part of a trash-strewn city to another - worried the whole time, whether a flight will be missed.
