Phatthalung: Elderly Woman Killed Riding Against Traffic
Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A traffic incident in Phatthalung Province has claimed the life of a 75-year-old woman and left two teenagers injured after a multi-vehicle collision sparked by a three-wheeled motorcycle and sidecar driving against traffic. Police from Mueang Phatthalung Station, led by Pol. Sub. Lt. Sorot Chanaphan, along with Phatthalung rescue personnel, responded to the crash scene on Aphai Burirat Road near the Ban Nong Bo market in Khuha Sawan Subdistrict. At the scene, authorities discovered a black Toyota Vigo pickup truck with front-end damage and a detached front wheel, driven by Mr. Jaturong. Nearby, a second vehicle, a gold Toyota Vigo 4-door pickup, had sustained right-side damage; it was being driven by Mr. Wichet Phetphen. A blue Honda Wave 110 motorcycle was also found overturned in the road, with two injured 15-year-old boys, Chakrithep (rider) and Thaphat (passenger). Both were transported to hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. In the middle of the road lay the wreckage of a motorcycle and sidecar, completely destroyed. The driver, Mrs. Iead 75, suffered critical injuries. Despite efforts by rescue teams to resuscitate her at the scene and urgent transfer to Phatthalung Hospital, she was later pronounced dead. According to police reports, Mrs. Iead had driven her motorcycle the wrong way out of a side street, entering the oncoming lane. Mr. Jaturong, who was driving at speed toward the city centre, was unable to brake in time and collided directly with the elderly woman’s vehicle. The impact caused Mr. Jaturong’s pickup to lose control, veering into the opposite lane where it struck Mr. Wichet’s pickup truck and clipped the motorcycle carrying the two teenagers. Mr. Jaturong told police he saw the motorcycle and sidecar, travelling in the wrong direction in his lane but was unable to avoid a collision due to his speed and proximity. CCTV footage from a local resident clearly captured the entire incident and police plan to use the footage as part of their investigation into potential legal proceedings. Accident Fishing Trip Turns Tragic as Boat Sinks in Korat Lake
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A fishing trip ended in death, when a boat began leaking mid-journey, forcing two men to jump into the water. One man managed to swim to safety, while the other drowned despite a two-hour rescue search. The incident occurred on 12 July at a lake in Ban Non Makok, Don Wai Subdistrict, Non Sung District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Local rescue unit Hook 31 responded to reports of a missing person and dispatched its specialised water rescue team with diving equipment to the scene. Upon arrival, rescuers found a parked motorcycle with Nakhon Ratchasima registration plate and a pair of sandals on the bank of the pond. Rescue divers began an immediate search, combing the lake for more than two hours before locating the body. The deceased was identified as Mr Daeng, 57, a local resident. His grief-stricken relatives were present when his body was brought ashore and broke down in tears upon seeing his lifeless form wrapped in a white cloth. According to rescue personnel, Mr Daeng and a friend had ridden a motorcycle to the lake to check fishing nets they had set earlier. The two boarded a small boat, but it began taking on water mid-way across the lake. Both men jumped into the water in a desperate attempt to reach safety. While Mr Daeng’s companion was able to swim back to shore, Mr Daeng did not make it and disappeared beneath the surface. His body was later being recovered by divers. Authorities have confirmed that the cause of death was drowning and that no foul play is suspected. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-07-14 -
