Misunderstanding Regarding Education Visa

Featured Replies

I arrived in Bangkok 2 weeks ago with the usual 30 days tourist visa. I am going to study for 2 years at Ramkhamhaeng Uni beginning june, and were told there were no problem arriving 4 months early as they would give me the education Visa. But now as I am here they tell me they cannot give me the visa until the school starts. What are my options here? I heard that going abroad and entering Thailand again is no longer legal? But I also herd that I can get an extension of my tourist visa with an additional month? Any advise would be appriciated.

What nationality passport are you using? Are you here on a Consulate issued 30 day tourist visa? In that case you can obtain a 30 day extension of stay for 1,900 baht. You may be able to obtain another tourist visa with a trip to a nearby Consulate to make up the extra two months.

If you are here on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp on arrival you can go/return up to 90 days in a six month period so not enough for the four months you need so a tourist visa from a local Consulate would be required.

It appears you are from Norway and that is a list A country allowed 30 day entry without visa. You should visit Vientiane before the end of your current 30 day entry and apply for a two entry tourist visa (to be sure you have enough time until ED visa issue). You can not extend your current stay more than 7 days and it would require a ticket out to do that. Just go to Vientiane, Laos and get a two entry tourist visa - make a border crossing after 60 days and return on the second entry - that should be more than the 4 months you need.

He is from Norway so is here on a 30 entry stamp. Not a Visa.

As said go to a neighbouring country and get a Tourist Visa.

Suggest Vientianne Laos as you would probably get a double entry giving you 4 months or 6 if you extend each entry.

Snap.. Too quick for me.

Wow, thanks for the quick answers. It is just 30 day entry stamp. So the border-run is still legal? That will buy me the time I need. Thanks a lot for your help guys :-)

No - not the border run - obtain a tourist visa from the Consulate.

You are only allowed 90 days in a six month period using the entry you now have and that will not take you to 4 months.
