Sorry, this is just getting far too hip for little humble me.

Let us know when (if) you ever open a resto, and we will come to check it out.

For now, I cannot stomack more talk, so in the meantime, I shall enjoy Supertramp's "Breakfast in America"

Thanks guys for all these interesting descriptions. The more I hear, the more I want to try some of these foods, especially the biscuits. I have been 3 times to the US, and did enjoy the breakfasts, especially the hash potatoes, the pancakes and the blueberry muffins. Yummi!

And by the way, I am not British either... Have a guess, I have left plenty of trails.

Irish ?

You surf? Of course you surf - you're in Hawaii brau.

You've got a he double l long way to go to get here. Better make sure your board's waxed good.

Mahalo bro.

Last 2 years Pattaya and Udon Thani have been my primary residences, 20 years prior to that it was Hawaii, oceanfront looking out at the surfers but never once tried it myself, too old and too much respect for the ocean.

Good luck on that restaurant, make sure you do a proper business plan before investing too heavily and definitely do that test market before jumping in too heavily, or better yet do a test market before anything then do a big open house buffet as your first form of advertising, enough people on this forum would show up to support it in the beginning.

I add my vote for chicken fried steak and black-eyed peas.

Bourbons.

What about hush puppies and something that tastes like southern fried catfish?

More Bourbons.

Gumbo and crawdaddies also come to mind.

BTW, hard to find many kinds of potato here. Most are waxy and make a very poor baked potato, not sure re hash browns, mash often too heavy.

Many bourbons.

A real hamburger would be nice, one that is good enough to ask for it medium rare and not as dense as all the hockey pucks around here. Even the best hamburgers here would not even stand up to an In N Out burger, much less a charcoal grilled fluffy meaty delight.

Corn bread, cooked in a skillet like it should be.

More bourbons.

KEY LIME PIE!

Those that know me, know that I can eat and drink enough to almost make a restaurant's night all by my lonesome.

Don't just build it, do it right!

hungry,

Paul1970,

No, not Irish, but not so far away. But across an ocean.

Some would say even worse than Irish...

I guess I am a purist but I think you should stick with the southern specialities and sink or swim on this uniqueness. Of course, pancakes are fine, think Pancake House, but really do not see the need to offer burgers as they are already available all over town and are not really a southern food. Also Key Lime Pie is specifically Florida, not deep south. Also forget the ribs. You can't compete with the best of the ribs in Pattaya and again ribs are usually done in the south at BBQ rib specific places. Again, stick with the Matthew's type dishes and you will be unique in all of Thailand. If you succeed, expect copycats to come.

Black-eyed peas? With curried goat is a West Indian dish.

Black-eyed peas? Who wants to eat a pop group?

Hush puppies - as Mamanoodle says - very comfortable, easy on your feet, but they are so unfashionable! Who wants to eat shoes? Shoe-leather, maybe. It's the only meat available out here.

If I can correctly guess who you are thinking of, then, no, I don't think its him.
