Hi all,

Can anybody give me some advice?

I have just accepted a teaching position with a British school in Thailand (i am a qualified teacher). My visa and work permit will be sorted by the school. However I my fiancee is coming with me, the school has said they will sort a non immigrant visa B visa for him to allow him to stay in Thailand.

He does not need to work as we can live off my salary but if he does want to, the school have said he must find own employment, work permit etc

My question is if he doesnt work or cant find work (he has no degree but is a qualified sports coach)then when he renews his stamps every three months will evidence of a work permit be required to allow him to re-enter or is this not required?

Is there any other ways that allow him to stay in Thailand with me?

If anyone can give me any up to date info then I would really appreciate it, thanks!

He will need his own visa, job and work permit.

Otherwise you need to get married.

There is not provision for Fiancees in the Thai law.

For a start he can get a one year multi-entry Non Imm O visa from Hull, giving "visiting family"s the reason.

Family being you.

This will keep him going for 15 months until he gets life sorted.

However he will need to leave and re-enter Thailand every three months.

The school have said that Non immigrant O will not be suitable for him as he his not 'family' - is a non immigrant O easy to obtain then?

Also, he will have his own non immigrant B visa through the school - offering him a 'job' for visa purposes.

My question is if he does have a non immigrant B visa - will he have to produce a work permit on re-entry to the country or will this not be needed as long as he has a non immigrant B visa?

As I said he doesn't need to work but would like to keep this an option in case he gets bored.

Thanks for any advice offered

For him to have a Non-Imm B visa from the school they will also need to employ him and pay a suitable salary

otherwise he will not have a Work Permit to keep the visa alive. As you phrase it, it all sounds rather dodgy to me.

At present a Non Imm multi-entry visa O is very easy to get from Hull, Cardiff or Birmingham.

"Visiting Family" will certainly suffice in Hull.

Do a search on Hull to see what I mean.

Here is one example. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=173963

I know what you mean it does sound a little dodgy, especially when im being advised by a reputable school! So just so im clear, you have to have a work permit to keep a non immigrant B visa valid?

I have read the link and it sounds quite simple then, one final question if he came on a non immigrant O visa, he would just cross the border every three months to get his stamp and that would be it?Also, if he did find work then is it simple to change his visa type to a B or would he have to return to UK to get new visa?

Again thanks for any advice as I really want to get this sorted before I sign my contract and it is very hard to understand how things work in Thailand when I am still in UK!! :o

That visa will be issued on the basis of fraudulent paperwork if the school letter is issued to him with knowledge that no job is available. But it is probably not likely to be found out.

If he receives a multi entry B visa there will not be any normal check on arrivals as to employment and there is no requirement for a work permit. He will likely not have a problem using such entry.

He could work on a B or O entry visa - being non immigrant is the main thing.

If you got married and had a one year extension of stay (which I am sure [extension] you will get) he could then get a matching extension from a non immigrant O visa entry.

Thanks for all the useful advice!

Think the non immigrant o visa is the route we are going to go down as im not happy with him using fradulent papers esspecially when there is no need to!!!

Am very excited now we got this sorted, Thailand here we come :o

I am in the same situation as you...

I am a chef, and my finance came with me. Since I am not married, I was only offered a single contract. I tried quite hard to find anything that would allow for her to stay here continous, regardless of cost, as that is not an issue. As you will learn, Thailand is quite full of 'red tape'. Being that we are not married, in Thailand you are viewed as single, that is it.

As I stated above, i would have easily paid for a visa, but there is no option. My finance did not work for the past 1 1/2 years.

So, she is a visa runner. We have left every three months and she is here using a tourist visa. Since October 2006 when they changed the law, we have gotten tourist visas in HK, Shanghai, Penang, Singapore, home country (2 consecutive), extending it 30 days each time. Obviously, this adds up financially, but that means I am not able to vacation in Thailand, and instead need to spend my money outside the country. Except for two weeks in home country, she has been here with me in Thailand the entire time.

Long have I given up questioning the Thai systems and have learned to accept it, and it has been fun. We have seen Asia, and have lots of memories, but sadly none of Thailand other than Bangkok.

2 years wiser, maybe this board is getting to me, but I would recommend getting married before you come, as that paper makes life simplier to the one person in immigration who would have issued a dependant visa on the spot have we been married....
