Hi there

Ive just booked a flight to vientienne to hopefully gain a tourist visa x2.

I have used one tourist visa and have used up my three border stamps entries(visa exempt stamps). This has all been done in the last six months. I was just wondering how the tv x2 actually works? Does it technically give me six months stay? Or do I have to leave the country? Also is the vientienne thai embassy near the airport, and any advice on what I should bring with me to help my chances of getting the visa?

Cheers

Bring and a few copies of your passport (also good to have since you leave your passport at the embassy overnight) and at least 3 photo’s (two for the Thai embassy one for the Lao visa) Bring $35 for your Lao visa (or pay the 1500Baht)

The embassy is about 5km from the airport (to far to walk!) don’t go with any of the “airport” tuk-tuk’s but just walk out of airport and catch one there (50/60Baht)

When applying for the visa cross-out the single entry and write double next to it, they might ask you why you want it and some “proof” might help (for example your friends who are also visiting Thailand and you would like to show them around, bring a copy of there plain ticket) if you don’t have “a good reason” there is still a good change that you get it although no guaranties…

(I just got back from Vientiane and nobody get denied the day I was there)

When leaving Laos make sure to have 2.500 Kip left as you have to pay an exit fee to leave the country!! (you can pay in any Baht/Dollar but will get change in Kip)

You still have to leave the country every 60 days….

The standard tuk-tuk fare from "The fountain" area (centre of all tourist activity) is 60,000 kip regardless of whether you are one/two/three people. This is about 7 dollars at the current rate of 8.700 kip to a dollar,or 210 baht if you prefer. considering they take you there, wait for anything up to 2 hours whilst you process your application and then take you back, a very fair deal indeed. Currently, Vientiane is definately the best place for those in need of a visa but with a few or more Thai stamps in their passport.
