Hey all,

I've got a question about "Alcohol",of all things.It's a pretty hard/specific query but I'm hoping

someone out there with the right knowledge could help me.....-----so here goes :D

I'm into high-end whiskey!!! ---am a bit tired of bumping into Johnnie Black/100 Pipers +

even Glenmorangie or Chivas Regal!!!!

Included in this post is a picture of a selection of the "ISLAY MALTS" I live in Pattaya and

I can buy "LAPHRAOIG" in Best Supermarket and another supermarket on Central Pattaya Road

does a good job with the Macallan/Glenlivets, but...... sooooo.. many other brands I'm getting hard,

sorry!!,impossible!! to get a hold of :o

I realise that Pattaya is not the centre of the Universe,so would be willing to go to Bangkok/elsewhere???

to secure my "wee drop" :D . Not to bore you all with the specifics, but by way of being mischevious here's

some of the "wee drops" I'd be interested in securing.................

Ardbeg(Islay Region) Bruichladdich(Islay Region)

Lagavulin(Islay Region) Bunnahabhain(Islay Region)

Caol Ila(Islay Region) Cardhu(Speyside)

Balvenie(Speyside Region) Cragganmore(Speyside Region)

Bowmore(Islay Region) Dalwhinie(Highland Region)

Highland Park(Orkney Region) Knockando(Speyside Region)

Talisker(Skye Region) Mannochmore(Speyside Region)

These are obviously not your standard drops and as such wouldn't,understandably,be found on the

Street Corner,so to speak, but if anyone out there knows of a contact/link that'd be

appreciated :D At the end of the day,I suppose, it just may not be possible to get some of these

as the Owners/Distillers don't do business in this part of the world----who knows!!!

Anyway, thanks all + take care everybody!!!!!!

Here's the photo folks............

Hey all,

just a little update in case anyone's interested in where to get a nice drop!!!

I have just been on the website and had e-mail contact with kingpower.com

They,of course have a hooch retail outlet at Suwannapoom airport,..... but their website

gives details of a downtown Bangkok Branch on Sri Ayuthaya-Rangnam Road.

I've e-mailed them and in their reply stated they have whiskies like "Bowmore"

and "Caol Ila" for sale!!!!!!!!!!

This is good news because it has proven very hard to get hold of high-end single malts

"NOT" of that quite sweet,sherry-casked Glenlivet/Macallan variety,.............................

"BUT RATHER"..... of that peaty, musky, woody palate which I think is just bloody

lovely,excuse my French!!!!!!!!

Go on guys, give this variety a go,you won't regret it!!!------ so few malts are peaty in body + soul,

and it's an acquired taste that makes a lovely change from the usual liver-ticklers!!!!!

Take care y'all

##P.S.##---(USELESS THOUGHT FOR THE DAY)-----

"They say a hard days' work never killed anyone,.................but why take the chance!!"

Please realise that if you are talking about Whisky then you are talking about real Scotch, from Scotland. If you are talking about Whiskey then you are usually talking about American or Irish drops. If you indeed know about your tipple then you would already know this. :o

Hey Jockstar,

how's it going.Interestingly,I'm from County Louth,Dundalk in Southern Ireland. In Ireland,WE SPELL ALL SUCH HOOCH

"""WHISKEY""",unequiveocally, absolutely, without exception.I of course know about the technical spelling distinction

re. the Irish/Yankee versus the the other way of spelling it!!!

However, single malt scotch is,goes-without-saying, single malt scotch....------- whether it's spelt with an "e" OR no "e"......

or indeed some strange unknown Eastern European Language spells it with a treble "k"---------the aforementioned

wee drop IS STILL ,by quite obvious reference a MALT that is SINGLE and SCOTCH.

When one goes to your nearest store to buy some, and you ask for some single malt scotch,I would hazard a guess that the

sales staff would NOT ask you----

" Just one thing sir, would you like our single malt scotch selection that is spelt with no "e"..........

OR....... over to my left some alternative single malt from Scotland that,oh my sweet Jesus,

is spelt with an "e".

Therefore with deference to the fact that I'm Irish,it is inevitable in my nature to spell all such hooch "WHISKEY".

Indeed, someone from Scotland, conversely, will spell it "WHISKY", EVEN WHEN IN WRITTEN REFERENCE TO IRISH OR

AMERICAN......------------------indeed this is to be fully expected,.......as this is simply how they spell it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ONE VERY EASY QUICK EXAMPLE........................ to have hair growth on/above your top lip is something that

English people call a "MOUSTACHE"................HOWEVER...........

in America it's spelt "MUSTACHE................

It still doesn't change the fact that it's a bloody piece of hair that

grows on your face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Believe it or not,if an American came to England, went to a mechanic, and wrote on a piece of paper that his car

needed a new "CARBURETOR" instead of spelling it as the English do...."CARBURETTOR".......................

GUESS WHAT............I'd say his goddam.... car WOULD STILL BE FIXED AS DESIRED.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I think that's my point fully elucidated!!!!!!!!!!!!

IN CONCLUSION,in reference to your quote---"If you indeed know about your tipple then you would

already know this".................

I think this unnecessarily, misguided remark has been put to rest,..................

however,the question remains..........

"What do YOU KNOW ABOUT THE CORRECT USAGE OF ORTHOGRAPHY??????"--

ANSWER----- NOT MUCH REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

##P.S.--All slating aside though, and on a final conciliatory note......out of interest, what Whiskey do

you like Jockstar???

I'm an Islay fan myself, wondering what takes your fancy when you like to treat yourself????

Posted

#P.S---have you looked up the word "orthography" in the dictionary yet???????

By way of deviation,Jockstar, a friend of mine bought a bottle of "Kentucky Deluxe"

and I'll be sipping a bit with him tomorrow!!! However, neither of us have ever had it.

It's not high-end stuff or anything(about 500 baht),just wondering if you've ever had it

and what it's like???

#P.S#--I DO know a little bit about whiskey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My uncle,Mark Dunne, was until recently chief malter at the Distillery

in County Louth, for the the 12 YEAR OLD CONNEMARA SINGLE MALT VATS!!!!!!

Check out their website------ Connemarawhiskey.com

It's a lovely drop and indeed one of the only peaty, single malt Irish whiskies

that could compare to theis Scotish cousins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Jockstar,

how's it hangin'!!!! Just thinking about your quote----"...then you are talking about REAL SCOTCH,from Scotland"

Maybe I'm missing something here,....but is there such a thing as Scotch whiskey that ISN'T real??????

:D:D

If it wasn't Scotch of Distillation origin then why call it Scotch??? :o:D

Hence,if you come from Eastern Mongolia and want to buy "Scotch" single-malt whiskey,

I'm a kinda hoping it would actually be from Scotland, whatever way you spell it.

If our Mongolian wants to spell it, "Whiisskeeey", THEN GOOD FOR HIM,however he's still

gonna get what he's requested :D:D

The Clansman bar on Soi 6 (Bottom end near Beach Rd) has an amazing collection of genuine whiskey for all over, you will not be dissapointed. Speak with the owner, he may be able to point you in the right direction. Enjoy.

Cheers Aceface,

must give it a shot in the near future and see what it offers!! Haven't been down that Soi in a

loooong time---since my days of the "My Friend You" Bar just up from King Kong!!!!!

Will be interesting to see how things are running along on that soi---same as ever I suppose!!!

Living the quiet life here in Jomtien, but will venture into the "Big Smoke" soon for a

Reconnaissance Mission and get reaccustomed with the lie of the land!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just had a little drink of the "Kentucky Deluxe".............not a bad drop, especially considering the price of just under 500 Baht.

It's relatively smooth and wouldn't turn my nose up at it in the future. To be honest I don't know how it fares-up price-wise

with a similarly sized bottle of Johnnie Red/Black/100 Pipers,...........because I normally buy single-malt............but............

not a bad drink at all!!!!!

I also had some of the other "Kentucky Area" drops to have a little comparison (Evan Williams/Jim Beam/Jack Daniels)...........

and I actually prefer the taste of the Kentucky Deluxe, which is great because it's quite a bit cheaper than some of its close

neighbours.I don't normally drink this stuff, but have to say it's not too bad for a change occasionally from the

"VSOP"--(VERY SORE ON POCKET)--- single -malt buying hobby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
