Who knows Recdisc?

Create an Emergency Recovery Disk for Vista

At the time the Vista SP1 was launched as Beta Microsoft has added an program for to create an Recovery Disk. With the launch of the final that program it isn't gone but not more functional.

Tested to use the Recdisc program from the Beta shows that it works.

To get it to work you need a bit to tweak the file permissions and here is how to do that:

1. Download the Beta release of Recdisc from TV Download (32 & 64 bit)

2. Open System32, start menu, type %systemroot%\system32 and hit Enter

3. look for recdisc.exe, right click on the file and click Properties

4. Click Security and click Advanced

5. Select Owner and click Edit

6. Select Administrator to Change owner to, click OK. Click OK again on the dialog.

7. You should back to the Security and here click Edit

8. Select Administrators and check the Checkbox Full Controls. Click OK and OK again.

9. Rename that old Recdisc.exe file (press F2) to Recdisc.old and keep an backup.

10. copy the Recdisc.exe file you downloaded before and double click on it to run.

That's all and may it helps you to secure your system a bit more.

Cheers.
