Check Bangkok's traffic conditions via cell phones

BANGKOK: -- From now on, Bangkok motorists can check traffic conditions in the capital via their cell phones.

"It's useful because when people plan their route ahead, they can save travelling time and expense," Deputy Bangkok Governor Panich Vikitsret said at a press conference Friday.

He said the traffic information could be downloaded from 40 smart traffic signs across the capital in nearly realtime manner. The smart traffic signs check traffic flow via more than 200 closedcircuit cameras.

"To check the traffic conditions via cell phones, you will pay just around Bt30 per month," Panich said.

I wonder if motorists will make use of this service while they are driving? :o

Smart traffic signs? Payment method?

The "smart" traffic signs allready exist, however, on many occasions, following the "advice" of these signs, I found the information to be less than accurate.

Or maybe the Thai's have a different interpretation of the green, yellow, red traffic flow indicators. :o

Bright idea, but I thought you could not use your mobile phone whilist driving after May 1st.

So how do you check the road reports?

This seems another way for more tea money for the BiB :o

With these guys? Left hand isn't yet aware there's a right hand.
