Keeping Snakes In Thailand

Featured Replies

Has anyone had any success keeping a ball python here in Thailand? I have been considering having one as a pet. I have always liked reptiles and used to keep them when much younger. I have done a little research and the ball python is a favorite amongst enthusiasts. I was planning on building an enclosure around one of the trees in the garden so as to make is a more natural setting. I don’t know if this is a good idea or not. I will check out that is on offer at Jak to Jak market (or what ever is the proper name for it) in Bangkok. Any advice welcome.

No need to buy from JJ market. Suprised you've not come across them when out on your bike, plenty wild ones around Ban Chang. Caught a 15 foot python outside the office a couple of weeks ago!!!! :D Plenty of cobras and other nasties about to :o

Wow! I only ever see the little garden snakes about, even when out on the bike. I would have liked to have seen the python. I didn't think that things like that were in the wilds of Ban Chang.

Ball python is African so you can´t find them in Asia. However there are retics and tiger pythons here and Blood pythons as well I believe. (Down in the south)

Since Ball pythons are now a very common captive breeded snake with a lot of colour morphs you should be able to find them in JJ market. Found some Green Tree pythons last time I was there.

check www.kingsnake.com for articles, breeders, caresheets, etc. Check the prices, you can easily pay 10-20 000 USD for one (morph)or 50 USD for a normal.

Should be no problem to keep if you know what you are doing.

We had a 10 ft python (burmese?) in our housing estate the other day, and yesterday has a large, thick, black snake in our back garden. All this in the wilds of Prachacheun!!
