He flew from Suvarnabhumi where he checked in his case - when he picked it up in Manchester from the luggage belt he found the stuff had been taken - is it more likely it was taken in Thailand or on it's arrival in the UK?

yes,had this happen a few months ago when we flew in from a holiday in britain ,bag on the belt opened and stuff missing ,must have happened here in thailand ,waste of time complaining ,no one wants to know ,then this is thailand.

Just put "stolen bagage" in the search forum box and found loads on this subject, seems it's happened many times before - answered my own question. Just wish i'd had the chance to warn him and he could have had the plastic wrap service for 100B which many recommend.

Just to clear up the matter of the "drill" for all you wise crackers, he's a Joiner by trade and had seen a Small Bosch hand drill in a DIY shop in Phuket that was half the price of the ones back home so had bought it along with extra's, he was so thrilled to have found one after someone had stolen his from a trade show earlier in the month in Bangkok - seems people in Thailand just can't keep their hands off other peoples things!

Why is it assumed the stuff was stolen in Thailand. I lived in Manchester for a couple of years; thieving toe-rags, the lot of them. Worse than the bloody scousers.

Toxin moving in didn't improve it's reputation either.

Of course, how stupid of me, this is the Land of Smiles, they wouldn't do a thing like that . Might have known someone would pop up and defend them. :o

Want to keep anything that is valuable to you - carry it in your hand luggage. Always chance it will be nicked in your check luggage and I mean this to be applied anytime/any place you travel to/from.

I understand what you're saying but "everything" is valuable to me that i carry in my case, they are my things! Is it too much to expect that airports do their best to employ honest workers? Shouldn't we demand a better service. Looking through past posts it seems it's happened many times, i just wonder how much is being done to catch whoever is responsible. I know there are bad apples in every barrel but they should be weeded out . Anyway i hope someone in authority might be reading this and get on the case.

Liverpool Airport baggage theft investigation

30.03.07

Four baggage handlers are being questioned over allegations that they stole from suitcases from Liverpool airport. They were immediately suspended and an internal investigation has been launched after a routine stop and search by airport security staff.

The four handlers were stopped as they were leaving the building at the end of a shift on March 13. A spokesman for the airport would not say what items were thought to have been stolen, but a local newspaper reports that it included a quantity of cigarettes and other items.

The investigation is expected to be completed by next month. Merseyside police have not yet been informed, but they could be called in to investigate depending on the outcome of the airport inquiry.

Could never happen in the UK could it? :o

I don't recall anyone saying it couldn't happen somewhere else . If in this case i could bet all i had that it happened in Bangkok i would. I'm not interested in any other case but this one.Good to see that in the UK and the USA that something was done about it, like everything else here it just gets shoved under the carpet. I lookforward to being proved wrong though with a future piece in the national news papers , i'm sure you'll be the first to let me know.

Royale - what I was implying was all I keep in my suitcase are clothes, and ditty bag (personal cleaning items).

Yes, i know what you meant, and what i was trying to say was that i'd be upset if anyone went in my bag and anything went missing, some of my clothes are really expensive, who know's what thieves are looking for. I'm just sad that when you leave your things in someones hands who you presume will be honest that you would have your goods returned with half of them missing. I know the saying "don't judge others by yourself" but it just makes me sick that any of this has to go on anywhere. Why didn't they just take the whole bag, it's the thought of these people rooting through your stuff and just picking what they fancy, makes me so mad.

Anyway if my original post makes people aware that it's going on then that's all i can do.

Funny though on these forums how often people are attacked for their good intentions, my first reaction when he wrote and told me his news was " oh no, i'm so sorry, keep your chin up" :o

I"m not going to get into a fight with you on this matter as i can see from your posts that everything in Thailand is all that's good and Farangs are all that's bad.

I've lived here for 15 years now and let's just say i know what i know.

I hate thieves, any thieves, not interested where they come from, just want people to know what happened, they can make up their own minds.Just keep in mind that the luggage was in Bangkok for over 2 hours before it left for the UK and only 30 minutes between unloading off the plane and it being picked up on the luggage belt - no doubt you'll have the answer for that but don't expect me to reply now anymore to this thread, i've got better things to do with my time. :D

Which is all very noble, until you come out with such remarks as , and I quote you........

" seems people in Thailand just can't keep their hands off other peoples things! "

" Of course, how stupid of me, this is the Land of Smiles, they wouldn't do a thing like that . Might have known someone would pop up and defend them."

" If in this case i could bet all i had that it happened in Bangkok i would "

When just a little research will enlighten you to the fact that this could have certainly happened in UK, you just assume that it must have been Thailand for some reason that only you know.

Have a nice day. :D

The fact alone that cigarettes were also stolen leads me to believe it happened in the UK.

Are worth their weight in gold nowadays in Europe.

Which is a change from the usual posts from Farangs that say Thailand is no good and Farangs in Thailand are all that is good.

By the way, I've done a longer stretch than you, does that mean I know more ?

You still can't admit that this could have happened in UK can you, when the evidence is staring you in the face, do a google search, you will find that it certainly could and does happen in UK and just about everywhere else.

I'm not saying that it DID happen in UK, I'm just saying that it is possible, you're saying it DID happen in Thailand just through your own prejudice.

Kow jai mai... :o

Luggage got pilfered between the unloading of the plane and the arrival carousel at Manchester?

Yea, right.

Why is it assumed the theft was in Bangkok? Guess you havn't been around here very long.

I also recall you never experienced double pricing in Thailand and claim no touts at the Airport

Check the Bangkok Post archives.

An organized gang has been caught stealing from the luggage waiting for loading.

No reason to think the problem has been cleared up.

What do you expect when the mafia has control of the place?
