Hi,

My Lao partner is scheduled to depart from BKK to Amsterdam in a couple of hours, and found out a few hours ago that he misplaced/lost his passport. While he is searching for it, I need to have some information regarding immigration.

According to the airline, he needs to go to the airport, to change the travel dates on his ticket, so that is something he needs to do. Then of course he needs to obtain a new passport, which I'm hoping he will be able to obtain at the Lao embassy in Bangkok. Then he probably also needs to go to the Dutch embassy to get a new tourist visa (luckily I have a copy of the visa).

My question is related to his remain to stay stamp in Thailand. He was scheduled to depart on the 14th, and his addmitted date was the 15th. I'm wondering what he can do, I guess he needs to go to suan plu to transfer his stamp into his new passport, but of course since it's songkrang, the Lao embassy is probably closed for a few days. Also it is very unlikely that he will get his new passport before the 15th, so I guess we are looking at an overstay.

What is the best way to deal with this, inform immigration about the lost passport, and inform them about the admitted date problem ?

Do we need to file a police report as well ?

Police report is the first requirement. Not sure if Laos will be willing to issue new passport or if he will have to return to Laos to obtain so that will be the next stop and after 16th. His Embassy should be able to advise from that point.

Lopburi3, thanks, what about thai immigration and his leave to remain until 15th april ?

I'm also not so sure about returning to Laos, sure he might be able to use his Lao id card (which he still has) to enter Laos, but what about thai immigration ?

He needs to contact his Embassy for instructions. Immigration is closed so nothing he can do there in any case. Today I would make sure everything/pocket/bag/drawer/pack is double and triple checked. Passports should not just vanish - but are often misplaced. Perhaps inside something else?

Thanks, he lost it, he turned the whole room (and bag) inside out. At least the airline was very flexible and changed his ticket to either the 19th or the 26th without any fees, I am not counting on making it on the 19th, maybe we get lucky at the Lao embassy.

He is on his way to make a police report now, I told him to call 1111 but I guess nobody will answer.

He went to the Lao embassy on the 16th, they were still closed, so he went back on the 17th, he got an emergency passport, and was told that he didn't have to go to Thai Immigration, and that he could stay for another 5 days in Thailand, before he had to leave for Laos. Don't know how they managed that, but indeed he exited Thailand yesterday without any problems, and is in the process of applying for a new Lao passport at Vientiane.

I know it is bit late for the poster,

but always have a copy of your passport and latest visa.

Scan it on your computer, if you can, then print when necessary.

He does have a copy of his passport, which will help in the process of obtaining a new Lao passport. They want to know the passport number, which will save a considerable amount of time.

He also has a copy of his Schengen visa, but the Dutch embassy in Thailand is unwilling to issue a new schengen visa, and has told me that he needs to re-apply for the Schengen visa, which will add another three days delay to the whole process.
