I'm a 50 year old, American, in BKK on a 60 tourist visa. When I first arrived I saw a notice that said I would be fined if I didn't report a change of address.

So far, I lived in a hotel for 2 weeks, then to a monthly apartment 3 weeks ago. I didn't report moving into either of them. :D

My questions are should I have reported something to somebody? To who? How? :o

What should I do now? I may leave in the next week or 2 to see Cambodia. I may or may not come back into Thailand. If I report now, will I be fined? Should I just lay low and hope I don't get caught? :D

George....you are ok mate...this rule would not apply to you...you are here as a tourist..this rule applies to people who are staying greater than 90 days eg people on work permits who 90 not leave Thailand...We are required to report to immigration every 90 days to report our current address...and yes if we dont report we get fined the same as an overstay....dont worry enjoy your holiday you wont be fined :D

As a tourist the hotel/apartment is/should be reporting your presence to police - they is why they have to take information from your passport. As a tourist staying less than 90 days you are not expected to be reporting every change of address yourself. Would be interested in the exact wording of the sign you read if you see it again.

For people on 1 year visas, the rule is that you are required to report a change of address to immigration within 24 hours of moving. The fine for failing to do so is 800 baht. It's unlikely that immigration will notice a violation, unless you are requesting a residence certificate, in which case your landlord must report when you moved into your new residence, and may be required to provide a copy of the rental contract.
