LaoPo
Just need a rough idea about costs for a taxi in Belgium:Brussel airport to Antwerp. Thanks, Gerd Don't know about the price but probably expensive. An express shuttle bus, directly from the airport to Antwerp Centre (near Central Station) is a lot more easy and comfortable; as far as I know they go every hour and cost around 8-10 €uro and takes 40 min. http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/brussels.html http://www.antwerpen.be/eCache/BEN/16/393.cmVjPTU2MTE.html http://www.brusselsairport.be/en/parking_t...t/toandfrom/bus LaoPo Edited April 16, 2008 by LaoPo

Spee
Thanks for your very quick reply!Have to fly next Monday for my company to go to a seafood exhibition in Brussel. But they've booked me a hotel in Antwerp........Guess it will not be cheap. Thanks, Gerd You can also take the subway direct from the airport to Brussells Midi, the main train station. The intercity trains to Antwerp run regularly. If your company will allow a car, it is a pretty short drive to Antwerp. Brussels is pretty easy to get around. Antwerp is a little bit tricky though. PS. Here's a map of the old town area: http://www.ilotsacre.be/site/en/default_en.htm In Brussels, the Thai restaurants are just a couple of blocks (5 minutes walk) from Grand Place (the old town city center). There is a small area of Asian restaurants there. On the map link above, they are located just to the left of Place de la Bourse. There are also dozens of nice little sidewalk restaurants next to the east side of Grand Place, mostly Italian and Spanish (tapas, paella, seafood, etc.). You can just walk along and take your pick. The waiters will try to talk you into patronizing their place. These places are in the map area called Centrum Centre. Hopefully you will get some nice weather. Old town Brussels is a very nice place to hang out with nice weather. Chok dee. Have a good trip.
tartempion
That's crazy (the hotel booking in Antwerp) Have that cancelled and have them book a hotel in Brussels There is a train station lower floor at the airport, take a train to down town Brussels there or a taxi on company expense. Seafood exhib eh, unfortunately it's too early for mussels, arooi maak maak Edited April 17, 2008 by tartempion
chatette
Ask on the interactive section here: http://www.xpats.com/ I'd reckon the cost would be just short of 100 euros if you have a clear run. The train is the best bet if you don't have lots of luggage. Seems bizarre, tho, that you'd stay in Antwerp for a conference in Brussels, which has hundreds of hotels. onzestan
Taximeter starts at Euro 2,40 After that its Euro 2,70 per km. Depending where your hotel is in Antwerp its about 50 km. So count with about 150 Euro's. about 7.500,- Baht Brussels is among the most expensive cities in Europe as far as taxi's are concerned. Better to have your company change your booking to a Brussels Hotel. (although Antwerp - my home town- is a much nicer city) cheers onzestan
Crossy
I'm another one to vote for the train. Mainland Europe and the Low-Countries particularly have excellent rail infrastucture. Trains are regular, clean and reasonable cost. Brussels has a superb public transport system of subway, trams and buses with a common ticket system too. Do be aware however that the transit system stops quite early (IIRC before midnight) so getting back to Antwerp after a conference booze-up could prove problematic (change hotel, nice reasonable ones in the centre of Brussels).
