LTU Airlines. Had never heard of them prior to seeing their planes at Swampypool. Anyone flown with them? They often advertise good deals to Europe and I may consider them...

LTU is a large German carrier:

I never flew with them from Europe but used them (and many of my friends and family) within Europe.

Good company.

LTU was integrated in 2007 (bought by) with AIR BERLIN, a large carrier* (they had more than 2 Million passengers in March) and according to their website they fly to several destinations from BKK>>>Europe:

* Passengers 2007: about 27,9 million

fly with LTU from Germany to BKK a few years ago and it was the worst airline I ever used.

But it was the cheapest as well.

Never used them, but heard from other people that leg space and seat pitch left much to be desired, not a small thing on a 10-11 hour flight.

I have considered them, but the price difference between LTU from Dusseldorf and EVA from Amsterdam was only 50 euro, so the choice was easy for me.

I've flown back and forth with LTU twice in the last few months, since they now fly non-stop from Berlin-Tegel to BKK (and I get a discount). They're not bad, particularly for the price. Seats were somewhat cramped but better than I had expected. 3 out of the 4 times I had reserved bulkhead aisle seats which were pretty comfortable. The last time I screwed up and forgot to get a seat booking, so I ended up in the middle of a row. That was quite cramped and I was glad when THAT flight was over. Food was OK as airline food goes. Cabin crew were presentable, friendly and efficient. I missed the pretty flight attendants and great food on Thai, but you can't have everything. Don't expect seat-back entertainment. The movies were fairly recent and OK choices, though. Mostly I ignore them and try to sleep. From my point of view, it's wonderful to arrive in Berlin after a long flight and not be stuck in Munich or Hamburg airport for hours, waiting for a connection. Immigration facilities at TXL are pretty minimal, but they only take about 10-15 minutes to process a whole plane-load. Must be even better at DUS, LTU's home base.

I've used LTU DUS-BKK twice. I like the airport of Dusseldorf. It's small and efficient.

The flight was fine. Seat space was limited, but acceptable.

Food was ok.

They are a low budget airline, but for a low budget airline they are pretty good.

My wife flew with them 2 years ago, direct flight Munich to BKK, but had to go via Düsseldorf on the return, so she was less than impressed by having to wait there with a kid for a Lufthansa flight back to Munich.

Now it's back with Thai, ethnic Sawasdee tarif, good price, good everything - smiles and they speak her language.

I recommend Skyways travel agent in Munich. Spend an hour one on one to find you best date/ price.

Went to travelocity.com to find an inexpensive one-way ticket from Switzerland to Thailand. Fed up with being stuck with "must-return" dates, living in Thailand most of the time. The top choice for price was LTU, followed by Quatar, but the latter would have had me stuck at Doha for a few hours...

LTU seems to be cheapest of 'em all. And being based in Germany, one could expect top-notch gov't requirements on plane maintenance etc., so there you are -- a combination of cheap without the "benefit" of fligh-by-night. Legroom etc.? Come on, I have long legs and have suffered my part on countless flights around the world, but throw in a good massage at the other end, and it's worth the savings :o

LTU is great. I am 195 tall and sit more comfortable in LTU planes than in Lufthansa 747s.

The staff at LTU is friendly (LH's staff is rather a customer deterrent) and the food is good.

As someone else mentioned, they fly into DUS, MUC and BER avoiding FRA wich is a rather confusing airport.

If I could be sure of getting the exit seat then perhaps I would consider using them, but I suspect LTU charges extra for those seats anyway.

Lufthansa 747's are such a 'poor experience' that the bragging rights for being better than them are nothing to shout about. I tend to associate LTU with charter flights, so I wouldn't consider using them for long haul travel.

Well, then you'd just miss out on a nice flying experience at a very reasonable price, just because of a blind prejudice. Up to you.
