Http Problems

everything works fine with the internet. other computers on the wi-fi network run well. my one particular desktop always has "network timeouts" when it comes to browsing certain websites. some websites work fine but others including thaivisa, always have to be refreshed few times. googled up help but to no avail.

this is what i did so far:

-tried various browsers, all the same problem

-installed a third party firewall , Comodo, thinking windows firewall might be blocking something. doesnt work.

-tried all three MUD values 1500, 14xx,, 14xx in the registry. dont remember what the xx are but followed some guide on solving this kind of problems.

-increased the number of open ports to 50 in case of router overload while using torrent downloading. btw: downloading torrents is wonderful on this desktop.

am i missing something?

Try to set your DNS to the settings in http://opendns.org

Hope this helps.

ignis, this one worked for me at home. too many ports are opened while using torrents and all i had to do was to open up more ports for the router. there is a patch that can be downloaded. worked at home but not working here in my office desktop. this problem is just exclusive to browsing the net. skype, msn, torrents etc etc all work fine..

What's about the setting in your corporate Network? Do you use an Hardware Firewall like Netscreen 25 or Cisco or some like that? Whatls abour the Router settings?

There could be many things which prevents you from browsing or downloading from some locations.

Cheers.

Reima,

i am now typing this from my laptop. using the same network, router, wi-fi. desktop is right in front of me. so it cant be the desktop. the only difference between the desktop and other computers is that the desktop is connected to the router through ethernet and not wi-fi. could that make a difference?

Yes, could be a different security protocol running, with different settings! Try to compare that settings!

Cheers.

Reset the router, helped me, power black out and on 2 connections, couldn't connect... NONE! All the others worked fine....unplugged the router, plugged it back in to the power... and Voila!

I suspect the problem is related to the number of hops to the website that times out.

If you have this problem again, do a traceroute to this website with the -h 60 parameter (eg. tracert -h 60 www.website.com) and check how many hops are counted. If it's more than 30, then there's your problem.

Actually, it's the ISPs problem (see this topic about that issue)

I assume that you have similar hardware for the computers running on your wireless LAN, and probably similar software builds all running through one internet router. Is it possible to swap out the wireless LAN card you are using? Or disable it and try a USB wireless adaptor?

If you have access to basic network monitoring tools (within some Task Managers) look to see if your local session is being timed out due to a problem with the NIC rather than at a higher level browser application level. Maybe look at driver software?
